Senior Claims First Career Weekly Honor After Leading LCU To Perfect Week And Delivering Match-Clinching Win

RICHARDSON, Texas (April 16, 2026) – Andres De Los Rios of No.10 Lubbock Christian University has been named the Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.

A senior from Madrid, Spain, De Los Rios earns his first career weekly honor following a pair of pivotal victories at the No. 4 singles position, helping the Chaparrals to a perfect 2-0 week against St. Mary's University and New Mexico State University.

De Los Rios opened the week by assisting in a 7-0 Lone Star Conference sweep of St. Mary's, posting a 7-5, 6-3 straight-set victory over Nikita Gavrilonoks. He followed with a  match-clinching performance on the road, rallying past Matias Rojas of New Mexico State, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, to secure a 4-3 team victory. The win marked LCU's first regular-season triumph over an NCAA Division I opponent in program history.

Ranked No. 29 nationally in singles, De Los Rios has been a steady presence in the middle of the lineup, delivering in high-pressure moments during the Chaparrals' late-season push.

The honor continues a dominant stretch for LCU in weekly conference awards, as De Los Rios becomes the third consecutive Chaparral to earn Singles Player of the Week recognition. Kelly Giese claimed the award in each of the previous two weeks (April 1 and April 8), giving LCU five total singles honors this season—all from Giese and De Los Rios (this one was the first of De Los Rios career).

Lubbock Christian has three regular-season dual matches remaining, all on the road. The Chaparrals begin a travel-heavy stretch Friday with an 11 a.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, before continuing Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest at Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New Mexico.
