Top-Ranked Singles Standout Extends Win Streak To 18 As Chaparrals Clinch Share Of Lone Star Conference Title

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 23, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University junior Kelly Giese has been named Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday, marking his sixth weekly honor of the 2026 season.

Giese led No. 10 LCU to a pair of dominant 7-0 Lone Star Conference road victories, including a title-clinching sweep at Western New Mexico University. Competing at No. 1 singles, the Manhattan Beach, Calif. native went 2-0 on the week while dropping just five total games.

He opened the stretch with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Gavin Leon of Sul Ross State University before following with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Jack Semper. His win against Western New Mexico secured the sweep and clinched at least a share of the Lone Star Conference regular-season championship for the Chaparrals.

Ranked No. 4 nationally in singles, Giese has now won 18 consecutive matches, improving to 31-5 overall and 20-1 in dual play at the top flight. His 31 victories establish a new program single-season record for singles wins, further cementing one of the most dominant campaigns in program history.

This week's recognition marks the sixth time this season a Lubbock Christian player has earned the conference's weekly singles honor and extends the program's streak to four consecutive weeks. Giese has accounted for five of those selections, including three of the last four.

In addition to his singles success, Giese was also recognized earlier this season as part of the Lone Star Conference Doubles Team of the Week on April 1, highlighting his all-around impact in both singles and doubles competition.

Giese's continued dominance at the top of the lineup has been instrumental in LCU's rise to national prominence and its pursuit of postseason success. The Chaps close out the regular season Saturday in Midland, Texas with a 2 p.m. Lone Star Conference dual against UT Permian Basin at Bush Tennis Center.
