SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (September 21, 2026) – Nadalie Cannell matched the lowest round of her collegiate career Monday and climbed into a tie for second place individually, leading Lubbock Christian University to a strong finish at the Westminster Wasatch Invitational presented by Canyon View Credit Union at Glenmoor Golf Club.
Cannell fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to finish the 36-hole event at 1-under 143, while the Lady Chaparrals posted a 302 (+14) Monday — 12 strokes better than their opening round — to finish eighth in the 14-team field at 616 (+40). LCU's 302 was the third-lowest team score of the final round, trailing only Westmont's 291 and tournament champion Point Loma's 293.
Cannell entered the day tied for seventh after opening with a 73 and turned in a career-best 36-hole total with rounds of 73 and 70. Her runner-up finish marked the fourth top-10 finish of her collegiate career and the best individual finish by a Lady Chap since Ali Escamilla placed second at the Sam Proal Invitational on Oct. 10, 2023.
Starting the shotgun round on No. 13, Cannell quickly moved under par. Her round included five birdies, and she played her final 18 holes in 34 on the inward nine and 36 on the outward nine for the 70. Combined with four birdies Sunday, Cannell finished the tournament with a field-leading nine birdies.
Her 70 matched the career-low round she first recorded in the second round of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic on April 4, 2026, in Goodyear, Ariz. The score also ties for the fifth-lowest round in LCU program history and gives the Lady Chaps two rounds of 70 this season after Abby Archunde posted a 70 in the opening round of the Shootout at Estrella on Sept. 14.
Cannell also became the second player in program history to record multiple rounds of 70 or better during an LCU career. Anna Schopp previously accomplished the feat with a 68 during the 2012-13 season and a 69 during the 2011-12 campaign.
Her 143 is the fourth-lowest 36-hole tournament total in program history and the lowest by a Lady Chap since Anaya Perales posted a 3-under 141 at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic on April 4-5, 2025. The program record stands at 140, a mark shared by Schopp and Sinea Montoya from the 2012-13 season.
Cannell finished two strokes behind individual champion Annika Yturralde of Point Loma, who closed with a 71 to finish at 3-under 141. Cannell shared second at 1-under 143 with Point Loma's Estibaly Garcia and Texas A&M International's Paulina Aguero.
Hailey Hays provided LCU's next-lowest final round, improving seven strokes from her opening 83 with a 76 (+4). She finished tied for 51st at 159 (+15). Kilee Ivy also improved substantially, following an opening 82 with a 78 (+6) to finish tied for 57th at 160 (+16).
Freshman Chace Atkinson, making her collegiate debut at the event, rebounded from an opening 88 with a 78 Monday, improving by 10 strokes to finish 69th at 166 (+22). Archunde rounded out the lineup with an 82 following her opening 76, finishing tied for 46th at 158 (+14).
As a team, LCU finished the two-day event with 21 birdies, tied with Fort Lewis for second-most in the field behind Point Loma's 28. The Lady Chaps also ranked fifth in par-3 scoring at 3.30 (+12), tied for eighth in par-4 scoring at 4.46 (+46) and eighth on the par-5s at 5.20 (+8).
Point Loma captured the team championship with a 577 total after rounds of 284 and 293. Westmont finished second at 591, followed by host Westminster at 603 and Montana State Billings at 604. Fort Lewis rounded out the top five at 611. LCU's 616 placed the Lady Chaps two strokes ahead of Vanguard and six strokes ahead of Colorado Mesa.
The Westminster Wasatch Invitational was LCU's second tournament of the 2026-27 season and produced the Lady Chaps' first top-three individual finish since 2023, highlighted by Cannell's career-best 36-hole performance and a final-round team score that ranked among the best in the field Monday.
The next scheduled event for the Lady Chaps is the WTAMU Fall Invitational Monday in Amarillo, Texas at La Paloma Golf Course.
