LCU played their first game on Sunshine State soil Thursday, falling 3-0 to No.1 St. Cloud State. The match was close as 14-11 (set-one), 17-15 (set-two), 16-15) (set-three), but late scoring surges by the Huskies pushed them to the straight-set win. LCU has now dropped consecutive straight-set wins in a season in which all five matches have resulted in a 3-0 result. The Lady Chaps are 3-2 on the season, and Friday's match will mark their lone match of the day. LCU and SCSU were the only programs that played Thursday.
Kayson Reeves, the reigning Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week, leads the Lady Chaps. She has had at least three blocks in each of the last three matches played and has 18 on the season (1.2 per set). She also averages 2.13 kills per set, to rank third on the squad behind
Leigh Jespersen (41, 2.73) and
Camryn Blair (47, 3.36), while leading the team with a .292 attack percentage.
LOOKING AT LYNN
- The Lady Chaps and Boca Raton, Fla. based Lynn have never faced each other. LCU has only faced one other Florida based program: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Sept. 19, 2009 in Cleveland, Tenn. (LCU won 3-1) .
- No. 21 Lynn enters the Barry Invitational with a 2-1 record after opening the season at the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament. The Fighting Knights swept Central Missouri and then-No. 22 Bentley, with their lone setback coming in four sets against Grand Valley State. Lynn is coming off a dominant 3-0 win over Bentley in which it hit .449 and held the Falcons to a .048 attack percentage. The Fighting Knights entered the season ranked No. 18 nationally and were picked fourth in the Sunshine State Conference preseason poll.
- Sophomore outside hitter Lira Pukl Verdel was named SSC Offensive Player of the Week after leading Lynn with 37 kills, 46 points and a .347 hitting percentage over opening weekend. She averaged 3.70 kills, 4.60 points and 3.10 digs per set while reaching double figures in kills in all three matches and recording double-doubles in both victories. Pukl Verdel currently ranks sixth in the SSC in kills per set, third in points per set and third in aces per set. Setter Ula Gorjup has directed the offense with 103 assists and averages 10.30 per set.
- Lynn has been one of the nation's more efficient attacking teams early in 2026, hitting .300 through three matches, which leads the Sunshine State Conference and ranks 18th nationally. The Fighting Knights also lead the SSC with 2.60 service aces per set and average 13.30 kills per set. Beyond Pukl Verdel, Zara Rendic is averaging 3.20 kills per set while hitting .305, Alexia Radulovic averages 2.60 kills on a .286 clip and Lillia Neill is hitting .444. The matchup with LCU will also continue a demanding opening stretch for a Lynn program that has reached six consecutive NCAA tournaments and won the 2024 NCAA Division II national championship.
