Lady Chaps Opening Heartland Conference Play at Home Monday

Texas - Permian Basin (1-6-1) at Lubbock Christian University (5-3-0)

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 6, 2014) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals open their second season of Heartland Conference play Monday at noon hosting University of Texas of the Permian Basin at LCU Soccer Field.

LADY CHAPS FLIGHT DECK
•    The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals play their first home game since Sept. 14 after going 2-2 on a four-game road trip, which came to an end last Tuesday with a 6-1 win over University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M.
•    LCU is 4-0-0 all-time conference openers.
•    The Lady Chaps are 2-1-0 at home this season and 13-5-2 all-time in home games under head coach Alex Denning.

STORY LINES
•   This contest marks LCU's second Heartland Conference opener. LCU went 7-2-0 in conference play last season. They had never had more than three conference wins in the three prior seasons.  
•    LCU returns their top three scorers from conference play last season. Emily Odom (3g,3a, 9pts), Kristin Fellows (2g,4a, 8pts) and Brooke Wendl (3g,1a, 7pts.) were LCU's top offensive producers in conference games last season.
•    Brooke Wendl has eclipsed the 30-goal mark in her LCU career, as she had a pair of goals Tuesday at Southwest (N.M.) to give her eight goals on the season and 31 in her career (LCU's career leader). She also recorded her fourth game winning goal of the season to increase her LCU career lead to 11 on the season. Her 8 goals has her tied for 11th in the nation and she ranks tied for third in game winning goals with four.
•    Four of LCU's seven goal scorers have at least a .500% shooting percentage of shots on goal. Brooke Wendl (14 of 27), Claudia Sanchez (9 of 17), Audra Park (4 of 8) and Kristin Fellows (3 of 6) each have a .500 percentage.
•    LCU notched some record numbers in their 6-1 in Hobbs last Tuesday. The six goals were the third most goals scored in a road game in program history and the most since registering 10 at Dallas Christian on Sept. 13, 2010 (they scored 11 in a contest against Wiley College on Sept. 3, 2012, but that was a neutral site game). LCU had 17 points (tied for fifth most in program history), and five assists (fifth most in program history) to get into the single-game leaderboard. Emily Odom had a pair of assists to tie a program single game mark, which has been done now 17 times.
•    Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals goalkeeper Lauren Story was honored Wednesday as the Heartland Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Story went 2-0-0 on the week playing in all 180 minutes of action in road wins over Texas-Permian Basin (2-0) and University of the Southwest (6-1). The junior stopped all shots faced, outside of a penalty kick against Southwest (NM). In 180 minutes, she notched her career program leading 10th shutout, stopped all seven shots faced and even garnered her first offensive point by assisting on Brooke Wendl's game winning goal in their win at Texas-Permian Basin. Story ranks third in the conference with a 1.10 GAA this season. She also ranks second in the conference in shutouts (3) and shutouts per game (0.38). The honor is the first of the season for Story and the third of her career (two-time recipient last season).

SCOUTING UTPB
•    The Falcons are 1-6-1 this season and enters the game following a 3-0 road loss at Angelo State on Sept. 28.
•    UTPB has only played two road games this season and they are 0-2-0 on the road.
•    They have been shutout in six of their eight games this season. They have an active overall shutout sequence of 298:01 in which they have not scored. The streak is at 294:31 on the road carrying over from last season.
•    The Falcons have been outscored 19-4 this season and only two Falcons have been able to produce goals this season. Jasmine Lopez and Alexa Branum co-lead UTPB with two goals each.

SERIES HISTORY WITH UTPB    
•           The all-time series between the two squads is LCU leading 2-1-0. The road team has won all games in the series.
•           The Lady Chaps won the prior meeting 2-0 Brooke Wendl and Kristin Fellows providing goals and Lauren Story with a three-save shutout.
•           The two teams split the series last season, with UTPB winning in Lubbock 2-1 in a non-conference meeting, and LCU winning in Odessa 4-0 in a Heartland Conference affair.
•           LCU's Emily Odom scored three goals in the combined two games last season against UTPB, and the Falcons were led in the series by a pair of goals from Kourtnye Chandler.
