GOLDEN, Colo. (November 15, 2014) – Lubbock Christian University had their program record 23-game win streak end Friday, falling in their season opener, and they seek to rebound Saturday facing Colorado School of Mines to close out play at the Tony Cosetta Classic. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Lockridge Arena.
The Lady Chaps fell 93-90 in the season opener Friday to Colorado Colorado Springs.
Haley Burton eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her LCU career in the loss. She posted a game-high 29 points and set a program single-game record with eight three-pointers. Five of the eight came in a 5-for-5 shooting performance in the first half, as she had 21 points at the break. True freshman
Tess Bruffey recorded a double-double in her LCU debut with 16 points and 10 assists. It marked the first time under head coach
Steve Gomez a freshman produced a double-double in their LCU debut.
LCU will seek to avoid consecutive losses to open the season for the first time since the 2001-2002 season. They are also avoiding consecutive losses for the first time since Nov. 19, 2011 (Azusa Pacific and Westmont).
ABOUT CSMThe Orediggers opened the season Friday with a 60-58 win over Eastern New Mexico to open the season 1-0. They used a 17-2 and a 12-4 run in the game for the narrow win. They produced a 28-18 scoring advantage in the paint in the win. CSM is preseason picked ninth in the 14-team Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference after going 11-15 last season. They did close the season with wins in four of their last five games and return 42% of last season's scoring. Friday's season opener marked the Orediggers first season opener at home in six seasons.
