Box Score PLAINVIEW, Texas (September 6, 2014) – Lubbock Christian University used a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal and received a goal and assist from
Brooke Wendl, as the Lady Chaparrals passed their first road test of the season with a 3-0 shutout win over Wayland Baptist University Saturday afternoon.
Wendl, coming off a hat trick and eight-point outing in Thursday's season opener, continued her offensive presence Saturday with the game's opening goal. Like her opening goal Thursday, Wendl again capitalized with a goal to the lower right side for a 1-0 lead. The goal came in the 29th minute.
Ashley Ledford put LCU up 2-0 with 1:38 remaining in the half by converting on a goal set up by a pass from
Racheal Eckert. Wendl helped put the game out of reach in the 66th minute completing a three-point game by sending a pass to
Audra Park, who like Ledford, scored her first LCU goal.
Lauren Story patrolled between the posts for LCU and stopped a pair of shots to record a shutout in the soggy swampy conditions. The shutout was the first of the season for Story and her program leading eighth of her LCU career. LCU had a 19-7 advantage in shots in the game and a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Jamie Boone produced six shots, with five put on goal. WBU's Bailey Stengler made seven saves in the losing effort. Stengler and the Pioneers fell to 0-3-1 on the season.
The win is the first non-conference road win since the 2012 season. LCU, now 3-2-0 in road openers, went 3-0-0 in 2012 in non-conference road games, but went 0-3-0 last season in the scenario. The Lady Chaps are 3-1-1 all-time against their former Sooner Athletic Conference rivals and they are 3-0-0 in games played in Plainview. The win places LCU 2-0-0 on the season. They return home to host Adams State University Friday at 2 p.m. at LCU Soccer Field.
