All-Time Series: LCU leads 6-4
Lubbock Christian University continues their three-game season opening series with Adams State University Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch at Hays Field.
The Chaps are seeking a 2-0 start to the season after winning Saturday night's season opener 18-15 in a four-hour marathon.
Gerardo Arzaga led LCU's offense with four hits (4-for-6). LCU's 18 runs were spearheaded by an 11-run third inning.
Josh Powe, playing in his 46th game of his LCU career, hit his first home run of his career with a two-run homer over the left field fence as part of the scoring frenzy. All nine Chaps in the starting line-up produced at least one hit and seven players had multi-hit performances. LCU also had five players with two RBI.
Scheduled on the hill for LCU is
Guillaume Blanchette. The St.-Constant, Quebec native will make his first start in a Chaps uniform. Last season with Galveston College, he led the team with 65 innings pitched and a 1.38 ERA.
Adams State is seeking to even the series after falling in Saturday's tilt. The Grizzlies scored 14 of the game's final 15 runs in their comeback bid. Junior Dillon Granzella led ASU with a homer and a 2-for-3 plate performance Saturday. The Grizzlies are going with Senior hurler J.D. Heredia, who is 0-1 all-time against LCU. He was in a pitching duel with LCU's
Brig Gerlich in the middle game of the series last season and suffered the loss allowing three runs (one earned) off five hits in five innings of work.
The series will conclude Monday with a single game at 1 p.m. at Hays Field.
