All-Time Series: LCU leads 6-5
Lubbock Christian University and Angelo State University play the middle game of a three-game series Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Foster field.
LCU, who has never lost a three-game series to the Rams, are seeking to end a two-game losing skid and their first two-game losing streak since Feb. 10-14, 2014 (Angelo State was involved in that two-game losing streak last season). The Chaps will try to avoid a three-game losing streak, which they last had Feb. 9-14, 2014. LCU dropped the series opener, and their first road game of the season, Friday 7-1 at Foster Field. The loss ended
Brig Gerlich's streak of 16 consecutive starts without a loss.
Gerardo Arzaga had a solo home run for the only bright spot in the game for the Chaps.
The Chaparrals will hand the ball to
Guillaume Blanchette for his third start of the season. The Canadian southpaw is 1-0 on the season with a 6.75 ERA. He has six strikeouts in 9.1 innings pitched and has held opponents to a .263 batting average. He allowed one run over seven innings in his debut, but a week ago, he only lasted 2.1 innings and allowed six earned runs in a "no decision."
ASU is riding a four-game win streak and they are 5-1 on the season. Steve Naemark takes the hill for the Rams. He is 1-1 on the season and has gone five innings in each of his prior two starts. In 10 innings, he has allowed one run on eight hits and has struck out 11. Opponents are batting .222 against the lefty. Naemark and LCU's Arzaga (both Tucson, Ariz. natives) are transfers from Cochise College.
The series closes Sunday at 1 p.m. in San Angelo. The two remaining games can be heard with an online only broadcast on www.lcuchaps.com.
