Chaps and 'Hounds Set For Midland Series at Rockhounds' Security Bank Ballpark

LCU and ENMU Both Aiming To Break Losing Skids

The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals open a three-game series Friday night at Security Bank Ballpark facing Eastern New Mexico University for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

The Chaparrals are 5-5 and seeking to snap a five-game losing streak, which is their longest winless streak since the start of the 2012 season. LCU is batting .324 as a team, with 11 home runs produced in 10 games. Gerardo Arzaga leads LCU with a .417 batting average. Hunter McFall is LCU's hit leader with 16 on the season and Wade Stramp leads the team in RBI with 12.

The team has a 6.64 ERA with Glen Warrick leading the staff with a 2.16 ERA. Opponents are bat-ting .304 against the Chaps. Brig Gerlich is looking to make his fourth start of the season Friday night. He leads the team with 17 strikeouts in 15.2 innings. Gerlich is 1-1 on the season and 12-1 all-time on the mound as a Chap. He holds a 6.89 ERA. This marks Gerlich's first appearance against ENMU.

The Greyhounds are 3-5 on the young season and are seeking to end a three-game skid. They are com-ing off a four-game road series at New Mexico Highlands, where they went 1-3. ENMU is batting .336 as a team, with 12 homers in eight games. Three of the 12 home runs are by Blake Cooper. Charles Sand-berg Jr. is their hits leader (15) and Clyde Kendrick leads the team at the plate with a .556 batting aver-age.

ENMU has an 8.14 staff ERA and opponents are batting .322. Cody Pope is the probable starting pitcher Friday night and he leads the team with a 2-0 record, 1.50 ERA and 14 strikeouts (in 12 innings pitched). In two starts, he has held opponents to a .222 batting average. Pope made two appearances last season against LCU and combined to go 5.2 innings in relief and allowed one run off three hits, striking out two batters.

LCU swept ENMU last series in a two-game home-and-home season series. LCU comes into the game with a 54-19 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1971. The two teams have only met three times since 2004. LCU is 22-11 all-time away from home against ENMU.
