All-time Series: LCU leads 26-22
History between the squadsLCU holds a 26-22 all-time edge over the Aggies dating to the inaugural game in 1974 in which the Chaps earned an 84-65 victory. LCU has taken all four matchups since joining the Heartland Conference and has won 10 of the last 11.
Last meetings amongst the teamsLubbock, Texas (December 31, 2015) – Lubbock Christian University men's basketball continued to revel in the sharing spirit of the holiday season in a 99-60 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State as the team dished out 31 assists on the 38 field goals scored while
Matthew Alford tallied a career-best 22 points Thursday evening inside the Rip Griffin Center.
The Chaparrals' 31 helpers count as the highest total since the 2010-11 season as the cause was fronted by
A.J. Luckey's nine which tied his career-high. The 38 field goals were a team season-high, contributing to an impressive 57-percent showing from the field. In addition to Alford's career night,
Marcos Schuster tied his season-high with 17, Luckey recorded 13 and
Isaac Cardona added 10.
Tight race in the HeartlandThis season the conference has changed the postseason tournament from a four-team tournament at the number-one seed to an eight-team neutral site format. Considering half way through this season seven teams are vying for the top four spots, the switch is a welcome change.
As of January 28, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Dallas Baptist and Texas A&M International are tied atop the conference with a mark of 8-2. Rogers State, who is not eligible for postseason play, sits in second at 7-3, while Lubbock Christian and St. Edward's are third at 6-4, and Newman and Texas-Permian Basin occupy the fourth spot at 4-6.
Shared scoring of the ChapsDuring LCU's 18 contests of 2015-16, seven Chaps have stepped up to lead the squad in scoring.
Tyler Rogers has tallied top honors seven times, and
A.J. Luckey is close behind with six;
Marcus Arrington has on five occasions, while
Isaac Cardona did thrice.
Ridrell Holman,
Matthew Alford and
Marcos Schuster each have notched a team-high in points once.
Road woes for LCUThe Chaps have performed well inside the Rip Griffin Center this season by compiling a 8-1 record, with the only loss coming at the hands of then fifth-ranked Angelo State in overtime.
Contests outside of Lubbock have not treated LCU as well as the Chaps have gone 2-5, including 1-4 in Heartland play.
On the road, LCU averages 15 less points than at home, shoots six percent less from the field, takes an 11-percent hit from the three-point line and pulls down six less rebounds.
