LCU looks to remain unbeaten at the DII AirHogs Classic in Grand Prairie, Texas, as they face Heartland Conference foe Newman in what is a non-conference clash. LCU plays Newman and then will close out their opening week of play Sunday facing tournament host Southern Arkansas.
 
FRIDAY FLASHBACK
Jaime Bustamante produced a trio of hits and starting pitcher Christian Marquez did not allow an earned run in his six-inning Chaparral debut, as Lubbock Christian University improved to 2-0 on the season and at the DII AirHogs Classic with a 5-2 win over Missouri Western State Friday evening.
 
DAN THE MAN
Daniel Crooks is scheduled to make his LCU debut on the mound. He has not pitched in two seasons after redshirting last season.  In 2015, he was a member of Midland College, where he combined to go 5-4 and made nine starts.
   
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT NEWMAN
- The Jets are coming off a 28-20 season in 2016. They did not play a neutral site game and went 14-13 in the Heartland Conference.
- NU is preseason picked sixth in the Heartland Conference Preseason Poll.
- The Jets opened their season Thursday with an 8-6 loss to Washburn, but rebounded for a 6-0 win over East Central Friday. They play Missouri Western prior to facing LCU Saturday.
- Aaron Mack leads the Jets through the first two days in Grand Prairie, hitting .667 with four hits in six at-bats.
- Four pitchers have combined for no earned runs in 12 innings pitched thus far this season for Newman.
 
HISTORY WITH NEWMAN
LCU owns a 7-2 all-time series advantage, with all nine prior games coming in conference play. Last season, LCU won two of three games in Wichita, winning the last two games of their Heartland series from Mar. 11-12, 2016.
