No Fooling Around... Chaps Closing Series in Laredo Saturday

LCU Aims For Sweep and Eighth Straight Win

Lubbock Christian University looks to complete a three-game Heartland Conference sweep Saturday in Laredo, as the No.14 Chaparrals and Texas A&M International are set for a 1 p.m. first pitch. LCU heads into the contest on a seven-game win streak, matching their longest win streak of the season. They are atop the Heartland Conference Standings with their 7-1 conference record. 
 
SCHEDULED STARTING PITCHER
 
LCU – Russell Reber (7-0, 3.72 ERA)
Russell is set for his ninth start of the season and he has wins in seven of his eight outings. The Chaps complete games co-leader (three) went five innings in his last outing (last weekend) and allowed five runs off 10 hits from St. Mary's. Reber is 3-0 on the road this season. He claimed the win last season in a five-inning start against TAMIU on Apr. 16, 2016, allowing two runs off four hits. 
 
TAMIU – Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2, 5.33 ERA)
Eduardo claimed his only win of the season in his last home start (over Rogers State). His last appearance was on Mar. 25 at Oklahoma Christian, allowing two runs off six hits in 4.2 innings. He produced a season high seven strikeouts in the game. He went 4.1 innings last season (Apr. 16, 2016) against LCU and allowed eight runs off 10 hits. He was strapped with the loss, placing him

LOOKING BACK
LCU used the combination of 14 runs and a combined shutout from pitchers Ricky Contreras, Colton Blackford and Brennen Fowler for a 14-0 win in the opener, and then followed with a three-run eighth inning in the second game for a 6-4 win to complete a doubleheader sweep over Texas A&M International University at Haynes Field Friday afternoon in Heartland Conference action.
 
STREAKS
Ryan Rogers had his career high win streak end at 13 games and his streak of 17 consecutive games reaching base safely end Friday. Brandon Rix also witnessed his 12-game win streak come to an end. The longest hit streak this season, by a Chap, is held by Tony Reyes, who had an 18-game hit streak earlier this season. He currently leads the team with a 10-game hit streak and is one game ahead of a nine-game streak by Jaime Bustamante. Brandon Rix leads the team with an active streak of reaching base safely at 24 games.
