SAN ANGELO, Texas (May 11, 2017) – Lubbock Christian University softball opens the NCAA Div. II Softball Championship – South Central Regional Tournament against host No. 1 Angelo State at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Mayer Field on the campus. The winner will advance to play Friday at 2:00 p.m. while the loser will play an elimination game Friday at 4:30 p.m.
LAST GAME – HEARTLAND CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 6, 2017) – Lubbock Christian University took two games from Heartland Conference Tournament host No. 19 St. Mary's Saturday at Rattlers' Softball Park, winning both games by a score of 4-2 to be crowned the 2017 Heartland Conference Tournament Champions and secure their spot in the NCAA Div. II South Central Regional Tournament next weekend.
The Lady Chaps (39-17) got off to a slow start at the plate in the opening game, held to one hit through the first three innings. Their pitching was able to match it, holding the Rattlers (42-14) to two hits during the span. LCU finally got a run on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, as
Lindzi Clemmer drove in
Katera Eltsosie to put LCU up 1-0.
Addison Ard lined a ball up the middle in the sixth inning to bring home
Casey Ingram and
Sydney Beuthien, and
Alyssa Hanks followed with a double to score Clemmer to put the Lady Chaps up 4-0. St. Mary's got two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off a Brenda Iparraguirre two-run home run to complete the scoring.
Katera Eltsosie (21-5) earned the start in the circle for the Lady Chaps in the first gam. She went the distance and allowed two runs off of five hits, while striking out seven batters for her 21
st victory this year. Hope Russell (8-2) started for StMU, going 5.1 innings and giving up three runs on five hits to suffer only her second loss this season. Ashley Mills came in to relieve her, but she only lasting two outs, giving up another run before giving way to Katelyn Corley for the final inning.
LCU scored four runs in the first inning of the 'if necessary' game and never looked back. The Lady Chaps led off the game with back-to-back hits before Eltsosie drove in
Courtney Medina. Clemmer followed with a single to centerfield to drive in Ingram, before both Eltsosie and Clemmer scored on a throwing error by the Rattlers shortstop to put LCU up 4-0. St. Mary's managed to get two runs in the bottom of the first inning and the score remained the same throughout.
Senior
Katlyn Holmes (8-6) started the 'if necessary' game for the Lady Chaps earning the complete game victory (sixth of the season). She allowed two runs on five hits. Jordan Russell (17-7) started in the circle for the Rattlers. She went the complete game and surrendered four runs on eight hits to suffer her seventh loss this year.

Sara Ralston (catcher) were Lady Chaps also selected to the Heartland Conference Tournament All-Tournament Team.
STARTERS
All but one of the regular day-to-day starters for the Lady Chaps are hitting over .300 for the season (the lowest slugging percentage among the group is .343). In conference play, three of the nine players hit over .400.

The No. 1 Rambelles finished the regular season ranked third in the nation in on-base percentage (.430), fifth in the nation in shutouts (20) and have the sixth lowest staff ERA in the nation at 1.43. Angelo State also sits in the top-25 nationally in several other categories, as well: 1.00 home runs per game (12
th), 6.46 runs per game (16
th), .500 slugging percentage (17
th) and .970 fielding percentage (22
nd). The two programs have met six times all-time, with four meetings coming this season (Angelo State won all four meetings this season).
PRIOR MEETING
LUBBOCK, Texas (March 13, 2017) – The No. 20 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals dropped both games of the doubleheader against No. 8 Angelo State University 7-0 and 6-2 Tuesday at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.
The Lady Chaps (17-10) could not get much going managing only six base runners in the game off five hits and a walk. Angelo State (26-1) scored a run in the first inning, three in the second inning, two more in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning. Bailey Wallace and Brooke Mangold each hit home runs in the game.
Katera Eltsosie (8-4) got the start for LCU five innings allowing six runs off six hits while walking five to suffer her fourth loss of the season.
Katlyn Holmes went two innings in relief allowing only one run off two hits. Brandy Marlett (12-1) started in the circle for the Rambelles going five innings allowing five hits striking out six Lady Chaps to earn her 12
th victory of the year. Morgan Hill pitched the last two innings not allowing any hits striking out one.
In game two the Rambelles scored two runs in the second inning and another four in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead before the Lady Chaps scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth with the first coming when
Addison Ard drove in
Sydney Beuthien and the second coming off the bat of
Logan Grado who brought in
Lindzi Clemmer.
Monique Garcia (7-6) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps going four innings allowing six runs off six hits while walking four Rambelles for her sixth loss of the season.
Katlyn Holmes pitched the final three innings not allowing any runs on three hits striking out two. Kennedy Urbany (9-0) went four innings allowing two runs on five hits before giving way to Morgan Hill who threw the last three innings not allowing any runs on one hit.
