LCU Seeks Depth Production Facing CSU Dominguez Hills and Concordia (Ore.)

PORTLAND, Ore. (September 2, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals closes out their opening weekend of play Saturday at the Concordia Portland Labor Day Weekend with a pair of matches. The day begins with a 2 p.m. (Central) contest against Cal State Dominguez Hills before facing tournament host Concordia (Ore.) at 9:30 p.m. (Central).

CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS (1-1) | Saturday, Sept. 2 | 2 p.m.
  • This meeting will mark LCU's first ever meeting against Carson, Calif. Based Cal State Dominguez Hills. LCU has never played against any school from the Cal State system of universities.
  • The Toros are a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association(CCAA), where they are preseason picked sixth in the South Division in the conference.
  • CSU Dominguez Hills went 9-17 last season, which included an 0-1 mark against South Central Region squads.
  • The Toros went 1-1 Friday, defeating Western Oregon 3-1 before falling 3-2 to Concordia (Ore.). The matches were the first out-of-state matches for the Toros since 2004.
  • Tati Yandall combined for 38 kills and Riley Kiger combined for 85 assists Friday in their opening day of action.

CONCORDIA (2-0) | Saturday, Sept. 2 | 9:30 p.m.

LCU is 1-5 all-time against Oregon based programs.
  • The Cavaliers are preseason picked sixth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). This is Concordia's first season with NCAA postseason eligibility after transitioning from the NAIA.
  • Concordia went 2-0 Friday with wins over Westminster College (3-0) and CSU Dominguez Hills (3-2).
  • Livia Strandburg (3.38 kills per set) and Lindsey Dorsey (3.25 kills per set) provide a 1-2-punch for the Cavs, as they each have at least 26 kills through two matches.

GAME NOTES
  • LCU has 17 players on their roster, and the depth could be put to the test. Returning kills leader, Emily Hanaway saw limited action Friday, and reigning Heartland Conference Setter of the Year, Mallory Powell, left Friday's second match due to an injury. Lauren Zoller was the only member of LCU's top three returning kill leaders that had an attack attempt Friday (Camille Porco did not play).
  • LCU's Karley David had a career performance in the Lady Chaps loss to Western Oregon. She topped her prior career high of four kills with 10 against the Wolves.
  • Freshman Jaden Kennedy made quite the defensive debut Friday with nine blocks (two solo) to average 4.5 per match and 1.3 per set.
  • McKaley Johnson produced three aces Friday. She produced four all of last season.
  • New members Stephanie Beers, Maddie DeGuire, Jaiden Kennedy and Avery Moore each made their Lady Chap debut Friday.
  • Kelsie French eclipsed over 50 digs on the day Friday and has 53 on the season (7.6 per set).
