LUBBOCK, Texas (September 6, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals open the home portion of their 2017 schedule Thursday evening hosting Colorado Mesa inside Rip Griffin Center. The match is the first match of the Chap Classic, which progresses into a 12-match classic spanning three days. LCU will play four matches in the classic, which welcomes five other programs to the Hub City.

• This meeting will mark LCU's second ever meeting against Colorado Mesa, who makes the trip from Grand Junction, Colo. LCU fell to the Mavericks 3-1 last season in Stephenville, Texas, despite 19 kills from
Emily Hanaway.
• The Mavs are 2-2 after opening the season at the Oredigger Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. They were able to record wins over Western New Mexico and Texas Woman's. It is the second straight season they have faced LCU after opening the season with a 2-2 record.
• CMU is preseason picked third out of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). They closed the 2016 season with six straight losses, but the last was in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament. This season, the Mavericks seek their fourth consecutive NCAA postseason berth.
• Preseason RMAC Defensive Player of the Year Taylor Woods enters Thursday with 1,121 career digs and is 19 digs away from moving into CMU's top-10 list for career digs.
• Samantha Ritter claimed RMAC Setter of the Week honors after 161 assists at the Oredigger Classic. She also had 28 digs and 13 kills during the week, which was highlighted by a 47-assist performance against Cal State San Bernardino.
GAME NOTES
• Freshman Jaden Kennedy has had a great defensive start to the season posting 17 team-leading blocks this season. Tied for second on the squad in blocks is
Avery Moore, who is also a freshman.
• LCU seeks their second straight season winning their home opener, after defeating Southwestern Oklahoma State last season in their home opener. LCU went 10-1 at home last season.
• Freshman Jaden Kennedy made quite the defensive debut Friday with nine blocks (two solo) to average 4.5 per match and 1.3 per set.

McKaley Johnson, who produced four aces last season, leads LCU with seven of the team's 15 aces.

Lauren Zoller leads LCU in kills with 40 on the season and a rate of 3.1 per set. She had a season high 14 over Westminster College, which was part of a double-double performance. .
• LCU is 1-3 on the season, but they are 1-0 in regional play, as the win over Westminster has served as their only in-region contest thus far on the season.
