Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. (February 18, 2018) – After a pair of shutout losses Saturday, the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals found their offense Sunday winning 11-1 over the Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm. The contest ended in a run-rule shortened game to wrap-up play in the Cactus Classic at Lincoln Park.
FOUND BATS
Held to one hit through 14 innings on Saturday, LCU (6-3) was able to get their bats going from the start Sunday.
Lindzi Clemmer got the Lady Chaps on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a solo shot over the fence down the left field line. Southern Nazarene (2-6) would answer with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game 1-1.
STORM FALTERS
KK Lopez-Lui drove in two runs in the third inning with a hard hit ball to left centerfield to plate
Courtney Medina and Clemmer.
Casey Ingram and Medina each scored a run in the fourth inning on two different Crimson Storm errors.
IN A PINCH
The Lady Chaps offense erupted in the sixth inning, scoring six runs, starting with a pinch hit shot to deep centerfield off the bat of
Logan Grado, which drove in
Sara Ralston and
Adelae Vayas. Ingram scored on a wild pitch before pinch hitter
K'leigh Arredondo drove in
Averi Miller. Clemmer followed with her second bomb of the day, and
Morgan Dufour lined one through the left side to bring in
Sydney Beuthien to cap the scoring.
IN THE CIRCLE
Monique Francois (4-1) started in the circle for Lubbock Christian, going the distance and allowing one run on five hits. She struck out three SNU batters in notching her fourth victory of the year. Katelyn Brown (1-3) started for the Crimson Storm, throwing four innings an allowing six runs on six hits. She gave up three walks in suffering her third loss of the season. Cassidy Davila pitched 0.2 innings allowing five runs on five hits before Brooke Tate came in to get the final out.
CONFERENCE TIME
The Lady Chaps return home and open Heartland Conference play Tuesday hosting St. Edwards in a doubleheader with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
