LAST GAME RECAP
LUBBOCK, Texas (February 4, 2018) – Logan Grado hit a bases loaded shot through the left side in the bottom of the seventh inning to score two runs and give the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals a walk-off 6-5 win over the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Falcons Sunday, concluding play at the 2018 Visit Lubbock Softball Classic at PlainsCapital Park.

The Lady Chaps (4-1) found themselves in a big hole early, as the Falcons (1-4) scored three runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

By the start of the fourth inning, the wind had switched directions and the temperature dropped over 20 degrees leading to pitching struggles for the Falcons. Megan Darling drew a bases-loaded walk to put LCU on the scoreboard, and it was followed by a shot to left field by Lindzi Clemmer (drove in Adelae Vayas and Casey Ingram) to bring the Lady Chaps within two runs (5-3). Averi Miller scored in the sixth inning off the bat of Sydney Beuthien to make it a one-run game going into the seventh inning (5-4).

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ingram reached on a fielding error by the UTPB third baseman to load the bases. LCU head coach Daren Hays brought in Logan Grado to pinch-hit, and she delivered with a shot through the left side to bring in Sara Ralston and Vayas giving LCU the walk-off victory.

Amber Carlton received the start in the circle for the Lady Chaps, going 2.1 innings and allowing three earned runs off seven hits (she struck out three Falcons). Clarissa Martinez (1-0) came in and threw 4.2 innings in relief, shutting out Permian Basin and only allowing one hit to earn her first victory on the season. Maritza Rojas started for UTPB (throwing 5.1 innings) giving up four runs off four hits, while walking eight Lady Chaps. She gave way to Sloan Springfield (0-2), who gave up two runs off two hits to suffer her second loss of the year.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (February 12, 2017) – Lubbock Christian University Lady Chap Softball closed out their weekend at the North Texas Bash in style with a 6-1 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville Sunday afternoon in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Lady Chaps did not record their first hit of the game until Medina singled to left centerfield in the top of the third inning. Medina then stole two bases before Casey Ingram struck out leaving one runner stranded.

The Javelinas then scored in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Rachael Longoria that brought in Delila Gillespie to put TAMUK up 1-0. It was not until the top of the fourth inning that Lindzi Clemmer grounded out to the shortstop for an RBI that allowed Beuthien to score, tying up the ball game at 1-1.

Once again in the top of the 6th inning, Clemmer provided some more heroics for the Lady Chaparrals. With two runners on base, Clemmer hit a double out to left field that brought in Medina and Beuthien.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 4, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University fell 11-5 to Texas A&M-Commerce in their second game of the Division II College Classic, leaving 13 Lady Chaps stranded on the bases.

During the season opening tournament, the Lady Chaps set a record by leaving twelve runners on base with the previous record of 11 occurring on February 15, 2013, against the University of Houston-Victoria. That record was short-lived as the Lady Chaps managed to leave 13 teammates on the bases in the loss to TAMUC (1-0). They left the bases loaded.

LCU was able to cut the deficit to three with Torres singling up the middle to score Clemmer and Sydney Beuthien. The Lions plated four more in the fifth inning to go up 11-4. With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Molly Davison was hit by a pitch to bring home Sammy Murrietta for LCU's final run.

Both teams used a committee approach to pitching, with each team using three different players in the circle. Lion starter, Katie Dean (1-0), receivedt the win going three innings (walking five, striking out one and allowing three runs on five hits). Selena Rim and Brittany Woolridge each pitched two innings for TAMUC. Katlyn Holmes (1-1) suffered her first loss of the year walking four, striking out one and allowing seven runs on four hits in four innings. Abbi White came in to throw 2.2 innings and Savanna Luke pitched 1.1 innings.
