– The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals continue their five-game homestand hosting Newman for a three-game Heartland Conference series this weekend at PlainsCapital Park. The three-game set begins with a Friday doubleheader set for a 2:00 p.m. start and continues with a Saturday noon first pitch.
LCU LEADERS
The Lady Chaps enter the contest with an overall record of 14-9, following a split with Rogers State on Tuesday. LCU is 10-2 this season at PlainsCapital Park. The Lady Chaps are hitting .255 as a team, led by
Lindzi Clemmer(.356).
Clemmer also leads the team in runs scored (20), hits (26) and total bases (56). Clemmer and
Morgan Dufour co-lead the team in home runs with eight each. Dufour also leads the Lady Chaps in slugging percentage (.781) and runs batted in (23).
Courtney Medina leads the Lady Chaps in stolen bases with 13 total. In the circle,
Monique Francois leads LCU with a 9-3 record and a 2.18 earned run average. She also holds the most innings pitched (83.1) and most strikeouts (81) while opponents are only hitting .203 against her.

The Jets are hitting .230 as a team and are led by Abby Davis, who is hitting .347 with a .389 slugging percentage. Davis also leads the Jets in hits (25) and total bases (28). PREVIOUS MEETING
WICHITA, Kansas (March 2, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals fell to Newman 6-4 in game one before taking game two 8-6 at Newman Softball Field in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday.
The Lady Chaps (11-5, 4-2) scored first with
Sara Ralston coming home off the bat of
Adelae Vayas in the top of the second inning. Newman (3-16, 1-5) stormed back plating four runs in the bottom half of the inning. LCU answered with two more runs in the third inning when
Sydney Beuthien singled to right field to bring in
Courtney Medina and
Morgan Dufour drove in
Lindzi Clemmer. In the fourth inning the Jets managed to get two more runs to take a 6-3 lead. Beuthien tripled in the fifth inning to score Clemmer to bring the Lady Chaps within two.
Monique Francois (7-2) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps going the distance allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out seven Jets to suffer her second loss of the season. Nique Payne (2-6) started for Newman throwing four innings giving up four runs on five hits for her second victory of the year. Chantel Purcella (1) pitched three innings in relief not allowing any hits to notch her first save of 2018.
In game two the Jets jumped out to a three run lead scoring two runs in the first innings and another run in the second inning. The Lady Chaps plated four runs in the third inning with the first coming on a sacrifice fly to left field by
Megan Darling bringing in
Averi Miller.
Morgan Dufour hit a three-rum bomb to score herself, Medina and Clemmer. LCU followed with three more runs in the fourth inning with
Logan Grado pinch hitting and doubling to left field to score
Casey Ingram and Vayas before Darling drive in Grado. The Jets mounted a comeback with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it a one run game. Vayas hit a two-out triple in the fifth inning to bring in
Haley Hardison putting LCU up 8-6.
For the Lady Chaps,
Amber Carlton (2-0) started in the circle pitching 3.2 innings allowing six runs off eight hits on way to her second win of the year.
Taylor Hinojos threw 1.2 innings in relief not allowing any runs off two hits before giving way to game one starter, Francois. She pitched the final 1.2 innings not allowing any runs on one hit while striking out four Jets to earn her first save this season. Bailey Bugner (1-5) started in the circle for Newman in game two going 3.1 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits to suffer her fifth loss. Purcella pitched 3.2 innings of relief only allowing one run on three hits.
