WICHITA FALLS, Texas (October 15, 2019) – Lubbock Christian's men's golf team finished the Midwestern State Invitational with their best round of the tournament, ending up in a tie for 13
th place overall.
Maxwell Mitchell had the best day of any Chap golfer, carding a 69 (two-under) on Tuesday morning. The score was eight strokes better than what he shot in round two (77), and gave him an overall score of 221 to finish in a tie for 36
th. Mitchell was the only LCU player with double-digit birdies at the tournament with 10 overall.
Jeff Maciejewski also had a strong round three, shaving another two strokes off of his round two score to shoot a 71 (even par). Maciejewski was three under on the course's par three holes for the entire tournament, giving him the best par three average of any player at the invitational. He finished in a tie for 26
th with a three-round score of 219.
Although he didn't have the best final round of the five LCU golfers, LCU's team leader at the tournament was
Zach Burkholder, who shot a 218 overall and placed 25
th. Burkholder carded a 72 (one-over) in round three.
Chase Mykelby and
Tanner Thompson completed the LCU team in Wichita Falls, finishing in 83
rd and 89
th, respectively. Thompson had his best overall round on Tuesday, shaving off 10 strokes and shooting an 80, while Mykleby finished the tournament with a 81 in round three.
As a team, Lubbock Christian shot an 897, finishing in a tie with UT Permian Basin for 13
th place. They were just three strokes behind Regis, who placed 12
th. The tournament was the last for the Chaps this fall, and they will now look towards opening the spring season at the Jack Brown Memorial Golf Tournament on February 3.
