Lady Chaps Travel to San Angelo For LSC Match

LCU, ASU Meeting for First Time Ever

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (6-3, 3-1) at
ANGELO STATE UNIVERSITY (7-1-1, 3-0-1)
Thursday, October 10 – 7 p.m.
ASU Soccer Complex

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • Lubbock Christian boasts the top offense in the Lone Star Conference, averaging exactly three goals per game
  • Three Lady Chaps – Haley Knesek, Allison Scott and Celia Duarte – rank in the top five in the league in goals scored
  • LCU and ASU have actually already faced once, playing an exhibition in San Angelo prior to the start of the 2019 season
  • Knesek ranks first in the LSC with 17 points this season, having scored six goals and assisted five others
  • As a team, Lubbock Christian is averaging 3.56 assists per game this season, which ranks as the third most among all NCAA Division II teams

THE FIRST FIFTEEN
One commonality between all six wins the Lubbock Christian women's soccer team has recorded this year has been an ability to get on the scoreboard early in the game. Each of the six victories has included at least one goal scored by the Lady Chaps within the first 15 minutes of play. The earliest of these goals came in the win against SWOSU, as Hollie Windham put LCU on top in just the third minutes, but early scores have helped the Lady Chaps put a number of teams on their heels early on in the game. Conversely, in two of Lubbock Christian's three losses, they have allowed goals in the first 15 minutes.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Both Thursday's game against Angelo State and Saturday's against St. Edward's will come away from home for the Lady Chaps, who are 3-2 in away game this season. LCU has been victorious in its last three road contests, outscoring its opponents 17-1 in that time. Haley Knesek has been the team's leader in games away from Lubbock, scoring five of her six goals there and assisting three more for 13 total points. Defensively, the Lady Chaps have allowed just five goals on 47 shot attempts when playing on the road.

A FEW GOOD CHANCES
Lubbock Christian's defense has done well to eliminate scoring chances by opponents, not allowing more than seven shots on goal in a game this season. Current-No. 1 ranked UCCS was the team that tallied seven shots on goal, as LCU opened the season in Colorado. The last opponent to get more than five, however, was Southwestern Oklahoma State with six in a game LCU won. The Lady Chap back line will face another tough test Thursday, however, as Angelo State enters the contest leading the LSC with 9.40 shots on goal per game.

HALFWAY POINT
The Lady Chaps currently sit right in the middle of their 2019 season with nine games played and nine games remaining on the schedule. The season started out with a pair of losses in Colorado, but the Lady Chaps followed with a six-game win streak – their longest since 2015 – to get the season back on track. Playing in the LSC for the first time ever, LCU started off with a 3-0 record before falling to a nationally ranked DBU team, and they would be the No. 5 seed at the conference tournament if the season ended today. The Lady Chap offense has been balanced, with multiple goals from seven different players, while the defense has limited opponents to 1.11 goals per game.

SCOUTING THE BELLES
  • Angelo State averages the third most goals per game in the LSC while also allowing the third fewest goals against
  • Senior forward Trenadey Scott is tied for the team lead with four goals this season and needs 12 more to set a new ASU all-time scoring record
  • Belle goalkeeper Kira Miller is the reigning Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, claiming the award for the first time this season
  • Head coach Travis McCorkle is in his 12th season at Angelo State, holding a 127-72-19 all-time record with ASU
  • Ten different Angelo State players have scored goals this season, including seven with at least two

THE SERIES WITH ASU
