LEAGUE LEADERS
Lady Chaps
Haley Knesek and
Allison Scott are currently first and second in the Lone Star Conference in goals scored with 10 and eight, respectively. Knesek is also the league's leader in points with 25. Her 10 goals are the most in a single season since she herself scored 11 as a freshman in 2016. The Aledo native is second all-time in goals scored in a Lady Chap career with 28, but she still trails Brooke Wendl by 19 goals. Scott's eight goals are the most she has scored in a collegiate season, breaking her 2018 mark of six. Freshman
Celia Duarte is also tied for second in the LSC in total points (20) and assists (8).
CENTURY MARK
Lubbock Christian head women's soccer coach
Alex Denning reached a milestone of his own last Saturday when he earned his 100
th career victory as a head coach as the Lady Chaps defeated Oklahoma Christian 3-0. Of those 100 career wins, 23 came while he was the head coach at Ouachita Baptist from 2008-2011, with the other 77 coming since he took the helm of the Lady Chaps in 2012. Denning has posted win totals of 12, 11, eight twice, nine twice and six in the previous seven seasons as LCU's head coach and has reached the double-digit mark for the third time with 10 so far this year.
MAGIC NUMBER
LCU has scored two goals or more in nine different games this season. They are 9-0 when they do so, making two the magic number of goals needed in a game. In two of LCU's losses, they were shut out and another two featured just one Lady Chap goal. The only game Lubbock Christian has won this season while scoring only one goal was on October 17 against St. Mary's. Through 14 games this season, the Lady Chaps are averaging 2.467 goals per game, which is the second best mark in the LSC. The success when scoring two or more goals is also helped by their .93 goals against average, which is tied for fourth best in the league. If LCU's 2.47 goals per game average holds up through the remainder of the season, it will be their best mark since 2014 when they averaged 2.59 goals per game.
TALKIN' BOUT PLAYOFFS
Currently tied for third int the league standings with only three conference games to go, Lubbock Christian looks in good shape to be one of the seven teams that plays in the Lone Star Conference Championships at the end of the regular season. This week, however, Lady Chap fans got a better idea of how possible it would be for LCU to reach the NCAA Postseason Tournament for the first time in program history, as they were slotted in seventh in the season's first NCAA South Central Regional Rankings. The top six teams in those rankings at the conclusion of the conference tournament will reach the conference tournament. Dixie State currently sits at No. 6 in those rankings, and there are three LSC teams (DBU, Texas Woman's and Angelo State) who would make the playoffs if the season ended today.
WIN STREAK VOL. 2
The Lady Chaps are on their second extended win streak of the season, having been victorious in four straight games. Earlier this season the Lady Chaps had a win streak of six games from September 14 to October 3. If LCU can close out the regular season without losing, they will stretch their current win streak to seven games and surpass the previous one. During the current streak, the Lady Chaps have averaged 21 shots per game and limited opponents to just 5.2. Knesek has led the team with four goals in that span.
SCOUTING UTPB
- The Falcons have just one win this year, which came on October 19 against St. Mary's by a score of 2-1
- Kessie Stocker leads the team with two goals this season, and four different Falcons are tied with one assist each
- UTPB has the lowest goals per game mark (.43) and highest goals against average (3.93) in the Lone Star Conference
- Marlise Bond has done the majority of the goalkeeping for UTPB, making 90 saves and allowing 40 goals
- UT Permian Basin has not won a road match since October 19 of last season, when they beat Midwestern State 2-1 in Wichita Falls
THE SERIES WITH THE FALCONS
Lubbock Christian and UT Permian Basin have faced off 10 times all-time, with the first meeting on September 26, 2013, which the Falcons won 2-1. LCU has been victorious in all but two meetings since then with UTPB winning only one more and one game ending in a tie.
