LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (9-6-2, 5-3-2) at
ST. EDWARD'S (7-7-3, 6-2-2)
Tuesday, November 12 – Noon
Lewis-Chen Family Field – Austin, Texas

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • With a 5-3-2 LSC record this season, Lubbock Christian has now posted back-to-back winning records in conference play for the first time since the 2013-14 seasons
  • LCU has scored 33 goals this season for a scoring average of 1.94 goals per game, which is the fourth best in the LSC. The 33 goals are exactly as many as they scored during the 2018 season
  • The Chaps have matched a program record with six overtime games this season, including the regular season meeting against St. Edward's, which ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes
  • Redshirt junior defender Jonathan Woods is the only LCU player to have been on the field for every minute of every game this season, currently having played 1617 minutes
  • Lubbock Christian got its first-ever conference tournament win a season ago, upsetting the No. 3-seeded St. Mary's 2-1 in San Antonio

REGULAR SEASON WRAP-UP
Lubbock Christian started the 2019 season with a 4-0 record for the first time in program history, beating UCCS, Colorado Christian, Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist. The Chaps then dropped two straight on a road trip to the northwest before beginning play in the Lone Star Conference. In league play, LCU won more games than they lost for the second straight season, posting a 5-3-2 record. They played into overtime five times against LSC opponents, highlighted by a 1-1 draw on the road against No. 5 St. Mary's. LCU's biggest conference win was just last week, as they took down rival West Texas A&M 4-1 at home. The Chaps have now reached the nine-win mark in consecutive seasons.

OFFENSIVE OPTIONS
When freshman defender Jasper Reese scored in the second half against West Texas A&M this past Thursday, he became the 11th different Chap to score a goal this season. As a team, LCU has scored 33 total goals, averaging 1.94 per game, which is the fourth-best mark in conference. Seven of those scoring LCU players have scored multiple goals this year, with Fernando Flores as the team-leader with nine. Lubbock Christian has only been shut out on two occasions this season. They are 7-2 in games where they score first, and 8-2 when they score at least two goals.

TOURNAMENT PLAY
The Chaps come into this year's Lone Star Conference Championship with limited experience in conference tournament play. LCU made the Heartland Conference Tournament for the first time in program history last season as winners of the league's west division. The 2018 Chaps had another program first still, getting the team's first conference tournament win by upsetting the No. 3 seed St. Mary's 2-1. Chap goals in the game came from Abdou Joof and Marcelo Pacheco (game-winner), with assists from Conner Dean and Richie Vaca-Cordova. In the Chaps' second conference tournament game, they fell to the No. 2 seed and No. 14 nationally ranked West Texas A&M 0-2.

LAST TIME THESE TEAMS MET
The regular season meeting between Lubbock Christian and St. Edward's was the first draw of the season for the Chaps. Both teams were scoreless for the majority of the first 45 minutes, before the Hilltoppers put in a header off a corner kick as time expired in the opening half. Pablo Galietero Diez evened things up just eight minutes into the second half after a misplay by the SEU defense. St. Edward's came close to taking the lead in the 78th minute, but hit the post. SEU out-shot LCU 9-6 overall an 5-4 in shots on goal. Diez led the team with a pair of shots on goal.

THE SERIES WITH ST. EDWARD'S
Lubbock Christian won the very first meeting against St. Edward's, taking them down 1-0 in 2013. Since then, however, it has been almost all Hilltoppers, as they won four straight contests from 2014-2017. LCU broke the losing streak in 2018, fighting to a 0-0 tie and tied again with them this year, but the Chaps are still looking for their second win in the all-time series.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
  • Parker Fyfe leads the Hilltoppers this season with eight goals and 19 total points
  • SEU head coach Brian Young is in his 16th season with the team and entered this year with a 160-96-29 (.612) overall record
  • St. Edward's averages 1.82 goals per game this year, which is the sixth best mark in the Lone Star Conference
  • Marko Lillic has done the majority of the goalkeeping for the Hilltoppers, making 30 saves with a goals against average of 1.66
  • SEU averages 14.18 fouls  per game this season, which is the second most among the 11 Lone Star Conference teams
