Lady Chaps Use Season-High Dig Total To Top Patriots

Highlights
For the fourth time in a five-match span, Lubbock Christian University obtained a 3-2 victory in a five-set match. Friday night against DBU (Dallas Baptist University), it took a 15-9 win in the fifth set to help LCU claim their fifth consecutive home victory. Each team provided balanced production, as the two teams combined for seven players with at least 10 kills and no player with more than 14, which was produced by DBU's Emma Eakin. LCU won despite being in the disadvantage in kills (55-54), hitting percentage (.130 to .118), digs (105-99) and blocks (12-4). Three players had double-doubles, with LCU'S Bradi Marshall (41 assists, 21 digs) and Hannah Thomas (12 digs and 10 kills) completing the task for the Lady Chaps. Brooke Clark (18 digs, 12 kills) notched the task for DBU. LCU's Morgan Schwarz (12 kills), Hailey Cournoyer (11 kills) and Sage Chain (10 kills) joined Thomas in double-figure kill performances. Maddie DeGuire led LCU in digs (32), while Alyssa Pavehouse of DBU led all players with 34.

How It Happened

Set One:
A 9-3 run to start the opening set allowed LCU to get into the driver's seat of the set. DBU would cut the LCU lead to 13-11, but LCU responded with an 8-3 run to build back their lead. LCU won the set 25-18 with an 8-6 advantage in kills in the set.

Set Two:
The second set had the most drama with eight lead changes in the set. An 8-3 run by DBU had them with a 22-17 lead, but LCU responded with a 6-2 run and trailed 24-23. A Macy Winburn kill for DBU ended the set with a 25-23 DBU win. Clark posted five kills in the set for DBU, who had a set-high of 15 kills in the frame. Sage Chain led LCU with four kills and LCU had four different players with a serving ace in the set.

Set Three:
Trailing 7-5, LCU went on a 5-0 run, which was part of a 9-2 scoring surge to take a 14-9 lead. LCU used a 4-0 run to distance themselves from a 16-14 lead to jump out to a 20-14 advantage. LCU had their best set with 15 kills and won the set 25-19. Cournoyer and Thomas co-led LCU with four kills.
 
Set Four:
The fourth set was tightly played. The score was tied on nine occasions and LCU looked to have claimed the match in four sets, with a 23-21 set lead, but DBU took advantage of a pair of LCU attack errors and went on a 4-0 run to claim the set 25-23. The teams combined for 58 digs in the set with 30 by DBU. Kasey Holand led DBU with four kills in the set.
 
Set Five:
Five Lady Chaps had at least two kills in the final set, as the Lady Chaps used an 7-2 run to propel them to a 9-4 advantage. They kept their distance the rest of the way and claimed the match with a 15-9 set win. LCU had 11 kills in the final set and hit .357.

5-2 – LCU improved to 5-2 on the season in matches that end in five set.
17 – The Lady Chaps improved to 17-0 in matches against DBU inside Rip Griffin Center                                       
34 – Maddie DeGuire posted 34 digs, marking her second-highest total of the season and her second match with at least 30 digs.
36 - Setter Bradi Marshall notched her 36th career double-double and she has 19 double-doubles this season and they have come over a 24-match stretch.
99 – LCU posted a season-high 99 digs.
2,085 – With 41 assists, Bradi Marshall reached 2,085 career assists and passed Ashley Hardin's career assist mark of 2,082 (1996-97), moving into 10th all-time on LCU's career assist list.
