Highlights
Lubbock Christian University extended their win streak to five matches with a 3-2 win over St. Mary's, marking LCU's third consecutive match to result in a five-set victory (program record). The match had highs-and-lows and included a big milestone, as sophomore setter Bradi Marshall surpassed 2,000 assists, becoming the 11th player in Lady Chaps history to reach 2,000 career assists. She completed the task with a double-double consisting of 39 assists and 16 digs. Marshall was not the only Lady Chap with a double-double, as Hannah Thomas produced 15 kills and 11 digs to also notch a double-double. LCU received balanced production in the match, as Morgan Schwarz (10 kills and eight blocks with a .381 hitting mark), Ashley Vanfleet ( nine kills, two blocks), Hailey Cournoyer (nine kills, .391 hitting mark and five blocks), Sage Chain (seven kills and three blocks) and Maddie DeGuire (19 digs and three aces) had valuable contributions for the Lady Chaps. The Lady Chaps posted 13.0 blocks in the match. The Rattlers lost despite 11 kills from Jasmine Sims and nine kills and four aces from Julia Deais.

How It Happened

Set One:
The blocks came early, as LCU had 4.0 blocks in the first set, with Schwarz and Cournoyer each with two in the set (five different Lady Chaps had at least one block in the set). LCU trailed 4-1 in the set, before bouncing back with a 6-0 run sparked by a pair of kills from Schwarz. The Lady Chaps also had a 5-0 run before closing the set on a 9-4 rally to claim the set 25-18.

Set Two:
StMU responded in s strong way in the second set. LCU had a 3-1 and 10-8 lead, but the Rattlers followed with an 11-0 run, which included a trio of serving aces by Deais. LCU could not bounce back from the 19-10 deficit and dropped the set 25-17. StMU had a 13-8 kill advantage in the set, with Sims and Amara Martinez co-leading StMU with three kills (each) in the set.

Set Three:
Cournoyer and Chain were able to drive the Lady Chaps in the third set, as they each had kills in a 5-0 scoring surge to help LCU take a 10-7 lead in the set. An 8-3 scoring advantage followed and LCU built their lead to 21-13. StMU attempted a late comeback, going on an 8-2 run to cut LCU's lead to 23-21. Thomas put away any doubts with a kill to help LCU claim the final two points for a 25-21 set win. Five Lady Chaps had at least two kills in the set, with Thomas producing five of LCU's 15 kills in the frame.

Set Four:
Another ace by Deais had LCU down 21-16 and capped a 5-0 run (part of a 7-1 rally) for StMU. The Rattlers followed with four attack errors and an ace by DeGuire helped spark a 5-0 LCU run to tie the set 21-21. StMU responded with a 3-0 run leading to LCU calling a timeout trailing 24-21. Thomas and Schwarz each had a kill following the timeout, but LCU couldn't get the 24th point and fell 25-23 to force a fifth set. Schwarz led LCU with four kills in the set.

Set Five:
Thomas (3) and Vanfleet (2) combined for five kills (of LCU's eight in the set) in the final set for LCU. The Lady Chaps led 8-5 at the change-of-sides. The Rattlers responded with two straight points and then LCU closed the match on a 7-0 run for a 15-7 set win. LCU hit .389 in the set.

Inside the Numbers:
3 – LCU's third consecutive match to result in a five-set 3-2 LCU victory is a program-first.
5-2 – LCU improved to 5-2 this season in games carrying to a fifth set.
5 – Hannah Thomas' double-double is her fifth of the season (and career) and it is her third in a road match.
8 – Senior Morgan Schwarz set a career-high mark in blocks with 8. All blocks were assisted blocks, which is a career-high for her and the highest block-assist total since a Lady Chaps member had eight on Oct. 27, 2018 (ironically also against StMU).
13 – LCU's 13.0 blocks marks the fifth time this season LCU has had at least 10.0 blocks in a match.
14 – The meeting marked LCU's first meeting against a program that was a Heartland Conference member last season. LCU has won three straight meetings against StMU all-time and has a 14-10 advantage in the all-time series.
35 - Setter Bradi Marshall notched her 35th career double-double and she has 18 double-doubles this season and they have come over a 22-match stretch (10th straight match with a double-double).
2,015 - Marshall now has 2,015 career assists and needs 2,083 to surpass Ashley Hardin (2,082 from 1996-97) to move into 10th in program history.

Up Next:
LCU plays their final regular season road match Saturday at 1 p.m., facing St. Edward's for a non-divisional Lone Star Conference match. They take a five-match win streak into the set.
