Chaps Wrap Up OC Matchup Saturday

LCU Looking for First 2-0 Start to Conference Play Since 2014-15 Season

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (1-0, 1-0 LSC)
vs. OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN (0-1, 0-1 LSC)
Saturday, December 19 – 3:30 PM
Eagle's Nest (Oklahoma City, Okla.)
All-Time Series: OC leads 41-28

Lubbock Christian University will wrap up their opening weekend of the regular season (and Lone Star Conference play) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday as they take on Oklahoma Christian for the second straight game in the Eagle's Nest.

FIVE THINGS TO FOCUS ON

1 | The Chaps got a pair of double-doubles in the season-opener on Friday night. Parker Hicks scored 24 points (17 of which came in the first half) on 10-14 shooting and led the team with 13 rebounds. Rowan Mackenzie was second on the team in rebounds with 10, while adding in 10 points and seven assists, just three short of a triple-double. Hicks had five double-doubles during the 2019-20 season.

2 | With the win over Oklahoma Christian Friday night, Lubbock Christian won its conference-opener for the first time since the 2016-17 season, when they beat Dallas Baptist 65-58 to begin Heartland play. The last time LCU began conference play with a 2-0 record was the 2014-15 season. This is the second season for the Chaps to play in the Lone Star Conference, and they went 15-7 in league play last year.

3 | LCU won Friday night by a score of 82-70. During the 2019-20 season, they had a losing record (6-8) when allowing 70 or more points, but a near-perfect record (12-2) when allowing less than 70 points.

4 | The Eagles started just one senior alongside two freshman and two junior college transfers on Friday. Their youth showed, but the two brightest spots of the game for OC was freshman Elijah Elliott's team-leading 21 points (8-18, 4-11 from behind the arc) and the 16 points scored by another freshman, Marco Foster.

5 | Lloyd Daniels was the leading Chaparral scorer in the season-opener, tallying 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including a 3-of-4 showing from behind the arc. Combined with the 24 points from Hicks, the two seniors made up more than 60 percent of LCU's offense. Daniels led the Chaps in scoring 12 times last season, and matched his career-high with the three three-pointers – a feat he has done three times now.

THE SERIES WITH THE EAGLES
For Lubbock Christian, Friday night's win was just their second in the last six meetings with Oklahoma Christian and it was their first in the Eagle's Nest since Jan. 21, 2017, when they won 75-72. The Chap are now 28-41 all-time against OC in a series that dates back to 1971, which was LCU's first year as a four year institution.
