OKLAHOMA CITY (February 14, 2020) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps head to the Oklahoma City metro area this weekend to participate in the Edmond Regional Festival II (co-hosted by Oklahoma Christian and Central Oklahoma), where they will open play Friday facing Rogers State and Chadron State College at OC's Tom Heath Field.

LCU and RSU Series Snapshot
  • LCU leads the all-time series over RSU 33-9.
  • The Lady Chaps had won 18 straight until the streak ended on Mar. 13, 2018, and RSU has won six of the previous nine meetings (four by shutout) since then.
  • LCU is 4-0 all-time against RSU in neutral site games (last neutral site meeting was May, 4, 2012, which was also the last time the two teams played and it did not count in the conference standings).
  • LCU is 2-0 in games against RSU that did not count towards the conference standings, as this season marks the first season LCU and RSU are not in the same conference.

  • LCU leads the all-time series over Chadron, Nebraska based Chadron State College, 3-0.

Opening Thoughts
  • LCU is off to a 9-0 start on the season, which is their best start since a 23-0 start in 2012 (LCU is off to their best start since going Division II)
  • Pitcher Taylor Franco is 5-0 to open the season (tied for third nationally) and has a conference-leading 0.47 ERA over 29.2 innings pitched. She has 25 strikeouts (sixth in the conference) and one walk on the season (the walk came in the 24th inning of her innings pitched this season). She leads the nation in strikeouts-to-walk ratio (25.0).
  • LCU has six home runs on the season, tied for 29th nationally. Skylar Herrera and Angela Donaldson each have two on the season to co-lead the team.
  • Donaldson leads the team in RBI with 12, which is fifth in the conference (seventh on a per game basis at 1.33). Half (six) of her RBI have come with two-outs.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic, but through their 9-0 season start, six different Lady Chaps have a game-winning RBI. Savannah Wysocki and Skylar Herrera each have two, followed by Addi Lewis, Clarissa Martinez and Angela Donaldson, who each have one game-winning RBI.
  • Savannah Wysocki leads LCU at the plate, hitting .346 (9-for-26), with three doubles and two triples (tied for fourth in the country in triples).
  • Clarissa Martinez leads LCU with 10 hits. She is tied for third in the LSC and 20th in the nation with four doubles.

  • The Lady Chaps cancelled out on attending the event last season due to extremely below average temperatures.

Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Friday with a softball record of 407-122 (76.9%).
  • His 400th win was recorded Feb.1, as he became the 53rd active NCAA Division II softball head coach to reach 400 career wins and he is the only active coach to do it in less than 11 seasons.
  • Along with surpassing 300 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record.
 
Looking at RSU
  • The Hillcats are coming off a 33-23 season and they went 17-13 in the Heartland Conference. They had their season end after an 0-2 record at the Heartland Conference Championships.
  • RSU is 7-2 this season, and like LCU, they opened their season at the Gulf Shores Invitational (went 3-1 in Alabama).
  • They are coming off a 2-0 win over No.10 Texas A&M-Commerce, which has them 2-1 against nationally ranked opponents this season.
  • RSU leads the nation in walks with 57 (opponents have issued 20 walks to RSU batters).
  • The Hillcats rank eighth nationally in on-base percentage at .459.
  • As LCU went to the LSC, RSU went to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, where they are preseason picked tied for fourth.
 
Looking at CSC
  • The Eagles are coming off a 14-35 season and they went 11-28 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
  • They opened the 2020 season in Lubbock (opened 2019 in Lubbock going 1-4), going 3-3 in LCU's season-opening hosted tournament last week.
  • They face Oklahoma Christian prior to facing LCU.
  • CSC ranks sixth nationally with a pace of 1.5 home runs per game. Angelica Maples has four home runs, which ranks tied for second nationally.
  • The RMAC Preseason Polls have CSC selected No.10 (out of 13).
