Let’s Play Two! Chaps Face Javelinas in Doubleheader

LCU Dropped 2-1 Pitcher’s Duel in Series-Opener

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (3-4, 3-4) at
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE (6-1, 6-1)
Saturday, February 15, 2020
Nolan Ryan Field – Kingsville, Texas

LEADING OFF
Lubbock Christian will play its first doubleheader of the 2020 season Saturday afternoon, playing a pair of seven inning affairs against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Nolan Ryan Field. LCU's previous two series to start the season lasted just three games, so there were no doubleheaders involved. Every series for the rest of the season will be four games in length though, with a Saturday doubleheader scheduled in all. The Chaps are looking to bounce back from an extra-inning loss in the series opener. LCU's pitching staff scattered just six hits in the game, but the offense could muster just one run and Texas A&M-Kingsville scored the game-winner on an error in the bottom of the 10th.

PROBABLE STARTERS
Game One
LCU – Aaron Weseman will most likely head to the mound in game one of the twin bill, with the lefty making his third start of the season. Weseman has a 4.00 earned run average across those two starts in 9.0 innings on the mound. His first start of the season was dominant, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters in six innings of work. He lasted just 3.0 innings in his last outing, taking the loss against St. Mary's. Opponents are batting just .129 against him this season.

TAMUK – Amado Almanzar is the probable starter in game one for the Javelinas. He has a 4.15 earned run average in two starts this season, spending eight and two thirds innings on the mound overall. Almanzar has struck out a team-high 15 batters in that time, but opponents are also hitting .324 against him this year. In his last outing, Almanzar allowed four runs on six hits in four innings against Cameron.

Game Two
LCU – The ball will go to Armando Valle in game three, as the Puerto Rico native tries to build off his excellent last start. Valle has a 6.43 earned run average for the season, having pitched 7.0 innings in two starts. Last Sunday against St. Mary's, however, he was dominant, striking out a season-high nine batters and allowing just one run on three hits in 5.0 innings. Opponents are batting .304 against him this year.

TAMUK – It will probably be Kolby Lunsford on the mound in game three of the series for Texas A&M-Kingsville. Lunsford's only appearance this season was his start last weekend against Cameron, when he allowed just one run albeit on six hits in six innings of work.
