LUBBOCK, Texas (February 9, 2020) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps close out their play in the Lubbock Sports College Invitational Sunday with home contests against Colorado State - Pueblo (2 p.m.) and New Mexico Highlands (4 p.m.) at PlainsCapital Park.

LCU and CSU-P Series Snapshot
  • LCU leads the all-time series over CSU-P 1-0.
  • The prior meeting was in Canyon, Texas, as LCU walloped the ThunderWolves 16-8 on Feb. 12, 2016.
  • LCU had a 10-run eighth inning in the contest, as they played extra-innings.

Opening Thoughts
  • LCU is off to a 7-0 start on the season, which is their best start since a 7-0 start in 2017.
  • Pitcher Taylor Franco is 4-0 to open the season and has a 0.31 ERA (second in the LSC) over 22.2 innings pitched. She has 19 strikeouts (seventh in the conference) and no walks on the season. She is tied for third in the LSC in strikeouts looking with seven.
  • LCU had four home runs Friday and one (grand slam by Skylar Herrera), giving them six on the season, which is tied for third most among LSC programs (five at home). Angela Donaldson and Herrera co-lead LCU with two home runs.
  • Along with co-leading the team in dingers, Donaldson and Herrera co-lead LCU in runs-batted-in with nine on the season.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic, but through their 7-0 season start, six different Lady Chaps have a game-winning RBI. Savannah Wysocki has two, followed by Addi Lewis, Clarissa Martinez, Angela Donaldson and Skylar Herrera, who each have one game-winning RBI.
  • Annika Schwartzenberg leads LCU at the plate, hitting .455 (5-for-11), with a homer and three RBI.
 
How is the Team Doing?
  • LCU is 7-0 this season and two of the wins have come in extra innings and against nationally ranked programs (both were the opening wins of the season in Gulf Shores, Ala.).

  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Friday with a softball record of 405-122 (76.9%).
  • His 400th win was recorded last Saturday, as he became the 53rd active NCAA Division II softball head coach to reach 400 career wins and he is the only active coach to do it in less than 11 seasons.
  • Along with surpassing 300 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record.
 
Looking at CSU-P
  • The ThunderWolves are coming off a 14-30 season and they went 13-25 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
  • CSU-P is 0-3 on the season and all three games were played in Lubbock.
  • The T'Wolves open Sunday facing Fort Hays State before meeting LCU.
