LCU History: Taking a Look at April 11

Mike Marshall Strikes Out 18 Batters in Seven Inning and Shanon Hays Wins Softball Game No.100 On This Date

APRIL 11 – We take a look at some of the top LCU athletic moments over the years from April 11. Pictured is Mike Marshall, who struck out 18 batters in seven innings in 2011.
 
Baseball
  • In 2011, Mike Marshall15074 strikes out 18 batters in just seven innings of work as No. 16 Lubbock Christian takes down Wayland Baptist 10-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The 18 Ks were two shy of matching the school record of 20, which has been done three times. 
  • In 2014, the Chaps crossed paths with Arkansas-Fort Smith for the first time in program history, sweeping a doubleheader with 5-3 and 10-2 wins. The wins were LCU's 19th and 20th in Heartland play that season.
  • Bo Hargrove (pictured) throws a two-hitter in an 11-1 win against Texas Wesleyan in 1981. Hargrove would throw another two-hitter just one week later against Dallas Baptist, but come out on the losing end that one, 1-0.
 
Softball
  • It was their 114th game in program history and it turned out to be their 100th win in program history, and the 100th 15075for head coach Shanon Hays (pictured) in 2009, as LCU swept Southwest (N.M.) 9-0 and 9-1 at PlainsCapital Park. Alyssa Gutierrez pitched four innings and allowed three hits and struck out seven batters in a combined shutout performance. She was also 1-for-1 with three RBI at the plate. Kelly Griego pitched the second game and pitched a two-hit complete game.
  • In 2014, LCU combined for eight doubles and crushed Texas-Permian Basin 7-1 and 12-2 in a doubleheader sweep in Odessa, Texas. Ashton Bell (Drury) hit a home run in the opener and then collected the win in the circle in the second game. Diana De La Paz was 4-for-4 with two doubles in the second game and finished the day 6-for-7 with three doubles.
  • K'leigh Arredondo reached base for a 23rd consecutive home game with a two-out three-run bases loaded double to help LCU defeat Heartland Conference leading Rogers State 13-5 at PlainsCapital Park last season (2019).
 
Women's Golf
  • Shanae Ammons finished in a tie for fifth individually with Lubbock Christian finishing in fifth as a team as well at the 2014 Hardscrabble Invitational. Ammon was just six strokes off the tournament lead, shooting a 225 across all three rounds.
