LCU History: Taking a Look at April 18

Baseball Hit Nine Home Runs in 2010 and Rallied Back From 10-0 in 2011

APRIL 18 – We take a look at some of the top LCU athletic moments over the years from April 18. Pictured is LCU baseball's Ryan Meade, who had seven RBI in a wild 2011 victory over Wayland Baptist.

  • Win No. 300

    Acosta
    in LCU program history is achieved in 1978 as the Chaps get a road win against Oklahoma Panhandle State 17-2. Oscar Acosta is the winning pitcher on the mound. The Chaps would follow up with a 9-7 win in the second game of the doubleheader.
  • Hector Limon blasts his second-career grand slam in the first game of a doubleheader at New Mexico State in 1986. The four-run homer is not enough, as the Chaps fall 8-7.
  • In a game with a final score that belongs more on the gridiron, Lubbock Christian takes down Oklahoma Baptist 27-17 in 2003.
  • No.19 LCU rallied from a 10-0 deficit and never led until Wayland Baptist University walked Brent Leslie with the bases loaded on a 3-2 pitch in the bottom of the ninth to walk in the winning run to give LCU a 17-16 victory in a crazy Sooner Athletic Conference contest at Hays Field. Ryan Meade led the Chaps with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate with seven RBI.
  • Another football score game occurred in 2010 as LCU beat Southern Nazarene 27-16, clubbing a school record nine home runs. The two teams combined for 47 hits and 15 home runs in the game. It was LCU's 10th straight game to score at least 10 runs and their 13th straight win. J.J. Muse went 5-for-6 at the plate, making him 10-for-13 in the series against the Crimson Storm.

Men's Golf
  • The Chaps finished round one of the 2016 Heartland Conference Championships, despite a four-hour weather delay. Scott Brown was one-over through the first 18, putting him in sixth place individually.
 
Softball
  • LCU swept Mid-America Christian University 11-2 and 11-3 at PlainsCapital Park in 2009. Ginalee Davis hit a grand slam and Kelly Griego went 3-for-3 at the plate and held the Evangels to one run on four hits in the circle in the opener. Amanda Parsons had a three-run bases loaded double to highlight the second game.
  • In 2014, Lubbock Christian tied a season-high in runs in an 18-4 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State in game one of a doubleheader in Goodwell, Okla., and Katera Eltsosie started a come

    back in game two with a home run in the top of the sixth inning, as the Lady Chaps were down 4-1 before scoring four runs in the frame to go on to win 6-3 and conclude Heartland Conference regular season play with a 19-4 record and finish in second place.
  • Haley Hardison hit a three-run homer, as part of a four-run first inning, while Katera Eltsosie (win) and Katlyn Holmes (save) combined for a shutout in a 4-0 win over Tarleton State in 2017 at PlainsCapital Park.
 
Women's Golf
  • No. 8 Lubbock Christian finished third at the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships in 2012. Anna Schopp led the way with an overall score of 147 to finish third individually.
