LCU History: Taking a Look at May 11

Baseball Made Their First Postseason Appearance In 1973 On This Date

MAY 11 – We take a look at some of the top LCU athletic moments over the years from May 11. Pictured is Don Worth, who was part of Lubbock Christian baseball's first postseason appearance in program history in 1973 on this date.

  • Lubbock Christian
    Carolla
    eliminated Wayland Baptist from the 2010 Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament with an 8-3 win. Frank Corolla allowed two earned runs in 7.1 innings on the mound while J.J. Muse collected four hits and three RBI at the plate.
  • Seeing their first SAC Tournament action ever, the 1995 Chaparrals beat Oklahoma Christian 6-4 in the opening round. Left-hander Eric Wagner got the win on the mound, improving his record to 6-2.
  • Lubbock Christian split a 1982 doubleheader with Texas A&M, losing 11-5 before earning a 7-4 win in the nightcap.
  • In Lubbock Christian's first-ever playoff experience on the diamond, District VIII North Zone winner LCC hosted South Zone winner Texas Wesleyan for the first two games of the best-of-three 1973 District Championship series. The Chaps dropped the first game 9-4 but bounced back with a 4-1 win in the second game, setting up a decisive game three the following day.

Men's Golf
  • Last season (2019), LCU's debut team-trip to the South Central / West Region Championships ended with a 19th-place finish, with Max Mitchell finishing tied for 30th individually (carded a 70 on the final day of play in St. George, Utah).

Track & Field
  • Amira McKee (WTF) and Ntagawa Alex (MTF) were named to the 2017 All-Lone Star Conference Second Team, while Jordan Brown and Jaylen Tryon (MTF) earned spots on the All-LSC Third Team.
