EVERYBODY IN
When
Lindsey Elison scored in the 59
th minute of Lubbock Christian's most recent game, it was her first goal of the season and the first game-winner of her collegiate career. It also made her the ninth different Lady Chap to have scored a goal this year. LCU is averaging 1.54 goals on 15.0 shots per game this season. Tied for the team lead in goals this season are
Allison Scott and
Makenna Pate, both with four each.
Celia Duarte and
Arely Jimenez are the only two other players with multiple goals, and both have scored twice. The game-winners have been spread evenly as well, with only Pate netting multiple, and the other five going to five different players.
MAINSTAYS
Only two Lubbock Christian players have started in all 11 game this season, and another four have at least appeared in every contest. Jimenez leads the way, starting in all 11 and leading the team with 936 minutes played.
Julie Shahi has also started all 11 and played 757 minutes. She assisted the game-winner against UT Tyler. Scott, Pate,
Brittany Jones and
Kenley Blevins are the other four players who have played in all 11 games.
SHUTOUT CENTRAL
The shutout by the Lady Chaps on Saturday in their 1-0 win over UT Tyler was their fifth of the season. Four of those clean sheets have come at home, where they have allowed just four goals in six games. Lubbock Christian is allowing an average of exactly one goal per game through their 11 games played, which is tied for the third-best mark in the conference. LCU opponents have attempted an average of 13.3 shots per game, with only 45.9 percent of their total shots coming on goal. The Lady Chaps have accomplished this while also averaging just 6.45 fouls per game, which is the third-fewest in the conference.
WORD TO THE WISE
Goalkeeper
Hannah Wise has also played a big part in LCU's defensive dominance this season, and the Midlothian native was in goal for four of the five shutouts. Wise has made 37 saves this season (four against UTT), and her save percentage of .822 is the third-best in the conference. A starter for five seasons now at Lubbock Christian, Wise has amassed a career record of 38-28-3, 30 career shutouts and an all-time goals against average of just 1.01. Wise long ago took over as the program leader in saves and earlier this season reached the milestone of 200 for her career.
HOME TURF
The Lady Chaps will be playing their third-straight home game when they take on the Belles, where they are 4-1-1 this season. Their only loss was against Texas A&M-Commerce, and they tied Oklahoma Christian. Including Wednesday's matchup, they have three home games left in the 2021 season. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex was completed in August of 2020 and features an AstroTurf playing surface, a Musco lighting system to allow for night games and stadium seating for 500 fans. The program is 56-24-12 all-time in home contests and has never had a losing record at home under head coach
Alex Denning.
NATIONALLY KNOWN OPPONENT
After winning the Lone Star Conference championship in the spring 2021 season, Angelo State was highly touted coming into this year's campaign, ranking No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top-25. The Belles have since dropped out of the national rankings, but are still receiving votes in the poll. Lubbock Christian is 1-1 against nationally-ranked teams this season. They earned the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent on Oct.2, when they beat then-No. 12 Dallas Baptist 1-0 on the road. The Patriots have since moved all the way up to No. 5 in the rankings.
SCOUTING THE BELLES
- Avery McNeme leads the team in points with 18, having scored five times and assisted eight other goals. Her eight assists lead the Lone Star Conference
- ASU averages 7.85 shots on goal per game, which is the fourth-best mark in the conference. UT Tyler is third with 9.20 shots on goal per game though, and LCU limited them to just six
- Kira Miller has handled all of the goalkeeping for the Belles, and her goals against average of .669 is the second-best in the league. She is the reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Week
- Last week, Angelo State went 1-0-1, upsetting No. 19 West Texas A&M 2-1 at home before fighting to a 2-2 draw on the road against Texas A&M-Commerce
- While the Belles have been a perfect 7-0-0 on their home turf, they have posted a 2-2-2 record in away games
