Winds Bring a Hays-ey Day For an LSC Opening Series

Nationally Ranked LCU and Oklahoma Christian Open LSC Play in Lubbock Friday Night

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 5, 2021) – A pair of brothers and a pair of ranked teams open Lone Star Conference play Friday evening, as No.11 Oklahoma Christian, coached by Shanon Hays comes to PlainsCapital Park to face No.25 Lubbock Christian, coached by Daren Hays. First pitch to the doubleheader is set for 6 p.m. (originally 2 p.m.)

LCU and OC Series Snapshot
  • LCU leads the all-time series over OC, 35-16, but OC has won five consecutive meetings, with LCU's last win coming in Lubbock, Texas on April 16, 2019, which was OC's last visit to Lubbock.
  • Head coaches (and brothers)  Daren Hays and Shanon Hays (former LCU head coach) have met on eight prior occasions, with Shanon holding a 7-3 advantage in games played against his brother.
  • LCU is 18-2 all-time at PlainsCapital Park against OC. The Lady Eagles spilt a doubleheader on April 16, 2019, ending LCU's 18-game win streak at home against OC (OC won the first-ever meeting in Lubbock and the previous meeting in Lubbock).

Opponents are hitting .145 against Franco, who is 27-11 in her LCU career. She is one of three pitchers nationally to appear in 9 games this season. Her six wins ranks tied for third nationally. Franco opens the week with a 0.60 WHIP, ranking 14th nationally.
  • Brooke Makemson is hitting .417 on the season. She has five home runs (fourth nationally) and 18 RBI on the season (third in the nation), and was named NFCA National Player of the Week on Feb. 9 after hitting .692 (9-for-13) at the LCU Invitational.
  • Savannah Wysocki leads LCU at the plate (.429), with a team-leading 21 hits (ranks fourth nationally). She also has eight stolen bases on the season as well (seventh nationally). Wysocki has one triple this season, placing her with 13 in her LCU career.
  • Skylar Herrera is seventh nationally in home runs (4) and is 12th in RBI (14).
 
Season Expectations
  • The Lady Chaps are preseason picked to finish sixth in the Lone Star Conference.
  • LCU is in their seventh season playing a NCAA Division II schedule (2013 was their last season in NAIA) and this is their second season as members of the Lone Star Conference.
  • There are 16 softball programs in the LSC this season.
 
Home Sweet Home
  • LCU is 261-31 (89.4%) all-time in home games at PlainsCapital Park.
  • Last season, LCU was 13-1 at home.
  • They are 5-1 at home this season, with all wins coming against MIAA programs.

Coach Talk

  • The Lady Eagles went 21-5 last season, and they were 6-2 in Lone Star Conference play at season's close.
