LEADING OFF
It's the last road game of the regular season for Lubbock Christian University and it is an important win to get as the Chaps are going for their third-straight series victory. UT Permian Basin won the series-opener on Friday, using a walkoff home run to beat LCU, but the Chaps responded in a big way Saturday, run-ruling the Falcons 16-4 in game two. Lubbock Christian currently sits in eighth in the Lone Star Conference standings, needing as many wins as possible to move up the conference leaderboard before the LSC Tournament in May.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP
LCU – Right-hander
Shandon Herrera will go to the mound for the Chaparrals, making his second start this week. Returning from a few weeks off, Herrera started the midweek, non-conference contest on Tuesday at Angelo State and was named the winning pitcher, going three innings of shutout ball with just one hit allowed. For the season, he has an ERA of 6.88 in 35.1 innings of work. He has allowed 28 runs on 40 hits and 17 walks while striking out 27 batters. This will be a hometown start for Herrera, who was a four-year letterwinner at Odessa H.S.
Â
UTPB – Jonathon Rice got the start in game three of the Falcons' series against St. Mary's last weekend and has not pitched yet this weekend. Luis Dominguez also has a pair of starts this year and has not pitched so far against the Chaps. Rice has an ERA of 11.00 in 18 innings of work. His last start against the Rattlers did not go as planned, with Rice exiting the ballgame after recording just one out and allowing three runs. Dominguez has fared better on the year, posting a 5.68 ERA in 12.2 innings of work, although his season-high is 4.0 innings pitched and came against Southwest (N.M.), an NAIA school.
