MATCH PREVIEW: Lady Chaps Face First Conference Road Trip Test Friday at Cameron

LCU, Off to Their Best LSC Start, Takes a 3-0 Road Record Into The Weekend

LAWTON, Okla. (September 24, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University hits the road for their first weekend of Lone Star Conference road play, with a Friday stop in Oklahoma to face Cameron before a quick turnover Saturday to face Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas Saturday afternoon. Their Friday match in Lawton marks their first-ever trip to Cameron.

CAMERON | Friday, Sept. 24 | 5:30 p.m. 
- LCU and the Aggies have met five prior times, with Cameron holding a 3-2 all-time series lead. All five prior meetings were neutral site meetings, with the first two meetings (Oct. 5, 1979 and Oct. 18, 1980) played in Stillwater, Okla. At Oklahoma State hosted tournaments. LCU and Cameron met in Abilene, Texas in 1996 (Sept. 27, 1996) and 2009 (Sept. 4, 2009, which was a 3-2 Cameron win in the previous meeting) and in Canyon, Texas in 2005 (Aug. 26, 2005).  
- Cameron has an 1-11 record and seeking to shake a 10-match losing streak. Only one of the losses is at home (0-1). They have played two common opponents (Washburn and William Jewell) and lost each in straight sets. CU is 0-2 in LSC play, falling on the road last week at Texas A&M-Kingsville (3-0) and Texas A&M International (3-1). Their lone win of the season was Sept. 3 against Minot State.
- The Aggies are preseason picked No.17 in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll. CU is coached by Brandon Stephenson, who is in his third season coaching the Aggies, who went 2-10 last season.
- Cameron ranks third in the LSC in blocks (78.5) and is sixth in blocks per set (1.87). Jessica Lipkit is seventh in the LSC with 30 blocks and is 15th at a per-set rate of 0.83.
- Arianna Navarrete leads the Aggies in kills, ranking 10th in the LSC with 101.
 
MIDWESTERN STATE | Saturday, Sept. 25 | Noon 
- LCU and Wichita Falls, Texas based Midwestern State are scheduled for their 47th all-time meeting, as LCU holds a 29-17 all-time series lead. The Lady Chaps have won 13 of the prior 16 meetings, but MSU defeated LCU 3-1 in their prior meeting in Wichita Falls (Oct. 10, 2017). LCU is 11-8 all-time in Wichita Falls (against MSU), with their last win coming Nov. 10, 2015. The previous meeting resulted in a 3-2 LCU win in Lubbock (Nov. 2, 2019).  
- MSU is 3-7 on the season and had their three-match win streak snapped Saturday with a 3-0 road loss at Texas A&M – Kingsville. The loss also placed them with a 1-1 conference mark.
- The Mustangs are preseason picked No.8 in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll. They are coached by Valerie Armstrong, who is in her fourth season leading the Mustangs.
- MSU ranks seventh in the LSC with 396 team assists. Autumn Roach leads the mustangs with 5.54 assists per set (11th in the LSC).
- Lauryn Bourne is the go-to Mustang, leading MSU and ranking third in the LSC in total attacks (339). Bourne leads MSU with 2.89 kills per set.
 
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU enters this week's play following consecutive 3-0 home wins last week to open LSC action. The Lady Chaps, entering the week one of four LSC programs with a 2-0 conference record, had wins over Oklahoma Christian and Arkansas – Fort Smith for their first 2-0 LSC start in program history (third season in LSC). LCU is 6-4 overall and 3-0 in true road matches. If LCU claims a win over CU, LCU will have their first four-match win streak since a five-match win streak in late October of the 2019 season.
-LCU went 0-13 in the second set of matches played last season. This season, LCU has won the second set in eight of their 10 matches (LCU is 5-3 when winning the second set). LCU is 6-0 this season when winning the third set and 5-0 when winning the opening set.  
-Last season, LCU had an attack percentage of .080, which ranked 16th in the LSC. This season, LCU is hitting .242 and ranks fourth in the LSC. Hannah Froeschl leads LCU in hitting, ranking seventh in the LSC hitting .337. 
-Tuesday, Froeschl received Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades for matches played September 13-19. She led LCU on the week with 23.5 points in 3-0 wins over Arkansas - Fort Smith and Oklahoma Christian. Against UAFS, the Texas A&M Corpus Christi transfer led LCU in points with 11.0, compiled by six kills, three solo blocks and two aces. The middle blocker posted a career-high in solo blocks with three in the contest. It ranks tied for the fifth-most since 2008 (for a Lady Chap). Froeschl followed with 10 kills and five blocks against OC. She hit over .300 in each match and finished hitting .361 on the week. LCU held UAFS to a program-low .043 attack percentage in their 3-0 win Friday. The honor is the first for Froeschl. She is the first Lady Chaps member honored by the LSC since Morgan Schwarz received the defensive honor Oct. 29, 2019. Froeschl and Schwarz's honor are the only weekly honors LCU has received in volleyball.
- Jalee Sims was a big contributor to the pair of wins LCU accomplished in their opening weekend of conference play, as she posted a pair of double-doubles and has double-doubles in her past four games (has six on the season and 16 in her career). She posted 28 assists and 10 digs against UAFS and 26 assists and 11 digs against OC, while helping the Lady Chaps to hit .286 against the Lions and .228 against OC. Sims also contributed five kills and an ace on the weekend. Her numbers have her ranking seventh in the LSC in assists per set (7.72) and fourth in total assists (278).
-With the combination of setter-play by Sims and Kayton Genenbacher, LCU ranks second in the LSC in assists (424) and seventh in assists per set (11.78). LCU's hitting percentage of .242 ranks 41st nationally, which is their highest national ranking in an offensive category.
- Kendall Mahaney ranks third in the LSC in digs (155) and ninth in digs per set (4.3). She has three matches with at least 20 digs on the season.
- LCU has limited their opponents to 38 aces this season, which plays out to 1.06 per set and ranks as the fourth best mark in the LSC.
- While LCU has served up 42 aces on the season, with aces from 10 different Lady Chaps. Kendall Mahaney leads LCU with nine serving aces. On the error side, LCU opponents have served 59 errors (1.6 per set), while LCU has produced 32 serving errors.
- Aaliyah Gray leads LCU in kills with 102 kills and is the first Lady Chap to hit the 100-mark on the season. She has 3.00 per set and is averaging 11 kills per road match on the season.
