LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU continues its season-ending five-match road trip Saturday at DBU after opening the stretch with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Texas Woman's on Friday. The Lady Chaparrals improved to 11-12 overall and 7-6 in Lone Star Conference play and remain in the thick of the race for one of nine spots in the LSC Championships. LCU sits immediately behind Western New Mexico in the standings, with both teams owning seven conference victories, while Oklahoma Christian and West Texas A&M enter Saturday at 7-5.
- Friday's victory came in dramatic fashion, as LCU rallied from a 13-10 deficit in the fifth set and survived two Texas Woman's match points before prevailing 17-15.
Camdyn Sears erased the final match point with a kill at 15-14 before consecutive TWU attack errors completed the comeback. The victory made LCU 1-0 in five-set matches this season and extended the Lady Chaps' winning streak in five-set decisions to four dating to last season.
-
Camdyn Sears continued one of the most remarkable stretches in program history with her third triple-double in four matches. Sears finished Friday with season highs of 21 digs and 21 assists along with a career-high 13 kills, while also matching her career high with three service aces and adding two blocks. LCU had gone 36 years without a triple-double before Sears recorded the first of her three against Texas A&M International on Oct. 16.
- Sears' outing at Texas Woman's was also her 13th double-double of the season and 36th of her LCU career. She has recorded a double-double in four consecutive matches and five of the last six. After never reaching double figures in kills before Oct. 16, Sears has now done so in four straight matches, increasing her career high in three of those outings from 11 to 12 and now 13 kills.
- Sears enters Saturday with 600 assists, 233 digs and 101 kills while hitting .305. She averages 7.79 assists and 3.03 digs per set overall. Her production has been particularly efficient in conference play, where she is hitting .345 with 75 kills against only seven attack errors while also contributing 349 assists, 136 digs and 13 service aces.
- Freshman
Shaylee Stevens delivered the breakout offensive performance of her young career Friday, producing a career-high 15 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. It marked her first collegiate double-figure kill performance and the second-best hitting percentage by an LCU player this season in a match with at least 12 kills. Stevens now has 47 kills overall and is hitting .327, while her conference numbers include 41 kills in 21 sets and a .376 attack percentage.
- Freshman
Lauren Hanson joined Sears in the double-double column Friday, recording career highs of 28 assists and 14 digs for the first double-double of her collegiate career. Hanson becomes the fifth Lady Chap to record a double-double this season, joining Sears,
Camryn Blair,
Hope Gonsioroski and
Leigh Jespersen. Her 28 assists continued her increased role in LCU's 6-2 offense after previous career highs of 14 and 20 assists during the recent
homestand.
- LCU established season highs with 60 kills and 90 digs against Texas Woman's. Four Lady Chaps reached double figures in digs, led by Sears' 21, followed by Hanson with 14,
Sienna Cavalier with 12 and
Leigh Jespersen with 10. The Lady Chaps held a 90-77 advantage in digs and improved to 7-0 this season when finishing with more digs than their opponent.
-
Hope Gonsioroski continued her productive
midseason stretch with 11 kills against Texas Woman's, matching her career high. She has now reached double figures six times this season, with all six performances occurring during the last eight matches.
Gonsioroski has 102 kills overall and is averaging 2.69 kills per set in conference play with 97 kills in 36 sets.
- Freshman
Kayson Reeves recorded five blocks against Texas Woman's, extending her streak to four consecutive matches with at least five blocks. Reeves leads LCU with 84 total blocks and averages 1.09 per set overall. In conference play, she has 54 blocks in 45 sets for 1.20 per set while also contributing 89 kills.
- LCU continues to show stronger statistical production in conference play than its overall numbers. Through 13 LSC matches, the Lady Chaps are hitting .211 while holding opponents to .190 and have committed 47 fewer attack errors than their league opponents, 211-258. LCU also owns a 79-52 advantage in service aces and an 88-86 edge in total blocks while averaging 12.56 kills, 11.40 assists, 15.87 digs and 1.96 blocks per set.
- Friday's victory also improved LCU to 3-2 in conference road matches and 3-5 in true road contests overall. The Lady Chaps are averaging 16.74 digs per set away from home and now have three road conference victories over Sul Ross State, Cameron and Texas Woman's. Saturday presents a significant step up in competition, as DBU enters the
matchup 17-4 overall, 10-2 in LSC play and unbeaten at 6-0 in conference matches inside the Burg Center.
LOOKING AT DBU
- The Lady Chaps hold a staggering 39-7 all-time record against the Patriots. LCU opened the all-time series winning the first 23 meetings dating back to 1983. DBU ended a sequence of six consecutive LCU wins in 2022 (Sept. 23, 2022) and had won three straight meetings until LCU bucked the trend last season with a 3-1 win on Nov. 1, 2025 in Lubbock. LCU is making their first trip to Burg Center since 2022, where they fell 3-1 (Sept. 23, 2022) and moved to 16-4 all-time against DBU in Dallas.
- DBU enters Saturday's
matchup with LCU at 17-4 overall and 10-2 in Lone Star Conference play after sweeping Midwestern State 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-15) Friday night. The Patriots sit second in the LSC standings behind unbeaten Angelo State and are 11-1 overall at home, including a perfect 6-0 mark in conference matches inside Burg Center. With the top nine teams advancing to the LSC Championships, DBU has created substantial separation in the race for one of the league's top seeds.
- The Patriots continue to feature one of the
LSC's most productive offenses, averaging 13.26 kills and 12.25 assists per set while hitting .245 overall. In conference play, those numbers climb to 13.27 kills and 12.29 assists per set with a .260 attack percentage, while league opponents are hitting just .164. Karly Wells leads DBU with 230 kills and averages 3.59 per set, while Reagan Fifer has 177 kills and
Aizlyn Dewberry has 117 while hitting a team-best .344.
- Dewberry enters Saturday coming off one of her most efficient performances of the season, recording 11 kills without an attack error on a .688 hitting percentage against Midwestern State. She also remains one of the league's top blockers with 85 total blocks and 1.16 per set. In conference play, Dewberry is hitting .369 with 75 kills and 43 blocks. Wells added 10 kills Friday and now sits just eight kills shy of DBU's program career kills record.
- Serving remains one of DBU's defining strengths. The Patriots have 151 aces and average 2.07 per set overall, while totaling 83 aces through 12 conference matches for 2.02 per set. Zoe Gun leads DBU with 36 aces and averages 0.49 per set, while Kalin Hubbard has 29 and Claire Conner 24. DBU produced nine aces in Friday's sweep of Midwestern State while allowing only one, continuing a season-long advantage that has helped the Patriots outscore opponents from the service line.
