LUBBOCK, Texas (October 20, 2026) — A historic triple-double and a commanding presence at the net have delivered a pair of Lone Star Conference weekly honors to Lubbock Christian University, as sophomore
Camdyn Sears was named LSC Setter of the Week and freshman
Kayson Reeves claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. The recognition followed consecutive straight-set victories over Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville, marking LCU's second and third conference weekly awards of the season.
Sears' selection marks her first weekly honor of the 2026 season and ninth of her collegiate career, including her fifth LSC Setter of the Week award. The Midland, Texas, native earned eight weekly honors during her freshman campaign in 2025, collecting four Setter of the Week and four Freshman of the Week selections. She became the first player in Lone Star Conference history to earn both LSC Freshman of the Year and LSC Setter of the Year honors in the same season, establishing a historic foundation for a career that continues to produce milestones.
The latest recognition comes on the heels of a remarkable two-match stretch in which Sears recorded LCU's first triple-double in 36 years. She accomplished the feat Friday against Texas A&M International, finishing with 15 digs, 13 assists and a career-high 11 kills while hitting .526 (11-1-19) in a three-set victory. The performance marked the program's first triple-double since Marla Lowery accomplished the feat against Houston Christian (then Houston Baptist) on Oct. 5, 1990. Sears followed Saturday with 16 assists and 10 kills on .391 hitting against Texas A&M-Kingsville, recording her 11th double-double of the season and 34th of her LCU career. Utilizing a new offensive system, Sears finished the week with 29 assists (4.83 per set), 21 kills (3.50 per set) on .452 hitting, 19 digs (3.17 per set), two service aces and four block assists. Her 4.17 points per set ranked sixth among LSC players during the reporting period.
Reeves, meanwhile, earned the first Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career and her second conference weekly recognition overall. The freshman middle blocker previously claimed LSC Freshman of the Week honors following the opening week of the season, making her the first LCU volleyball player to receive multiple conference weekly awards in 2026. Her latest recognition follows a dominant defensive showing in which she registered 13 total blocks (one solo, 12 assisted), averaging 2.17 blocks per set to tie for second among all LSC players during the week.
Reeves opened the weekend with six block assists in Friday's sweep of Texas A&M International before delivering seven blocks, including one solo, in Saturday's victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Her performance against the Javelinas helped LCU register 12 team blocks, including a season-high 22 block assists, matching the program's highest block-assist total in any match since Sept. 12, 2025. It also marked LCU's most block assists in a three-set match since Oct. 6, 2018. Reeves produced four blocks in Saturday's decisive third set, helping the Lady Chaparrals finish off a Javelinas squad that entered the contest with a 15-6 overall record and an 8-2 mark in conference play.
In addition to her defensive production, the Searcy, Ark. native contributed eight kills on .273 hitting (8-2-22), one service ace and 16.0 points across the two matches. Her six kills on .357 hitting against Texas A&M-Kingsville complemented a defensive effort that limited the Javelinas to a .104 attack percentage. For the week, LCU held its opponents to a combined .099 hitting percentage, forced 46 attack errors and averaged 3.00 blocks per set, more than doubling its opponents' blocking production (18-7).
The two selections give LCU three LSC weekly volleyball honors this season, with Reeves accounting for two and Sears collecting the other. The Lady Chaparrals' performances during the award period included six consecutive winning sets, a .282 team hitting percentage and victories that snapped a three-match losing streak .
