LOOKING AT ANGELO STATE
- LCU and Angelo State are meeting for the 33
rd time all-time. ASU won the previous regular season meeting (non-conference) this season (3-1 on Sept. 10) to place the all-time series record to 23-9 against LCU. ASU, who had a nine-match win streak from 1980, has won the prior six meetings. Seventeen (17) meetings have been played in San Angelo, where LCU is 5-12 (LCU has won five of the last 10 in San Angelo).
- ASU, who went 24-5 last season (going 16-1 in LSC play), had their season end in the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals. This season, the Belles enter the contest 9-9 on the season and have a 5-1 conference record (tied for third in the standings). They are preseason picked second in the LSC this season.
- The Belles posted a season-high 16 blocks against LCU in the previous meeting this season (UTEP transfer Marina Sanchez with 13) and they rank seventh in the LSC (35
th nationally) with 144 team blocks. They post 2.15 per set, which is seventh in the LSC. Sanchez ranks third in the LSC (12
th nationally) with 1.27 per set.
- Hannah Kinnison, a University of San Francisco transfer, leads the Belles with 143 kills on the season. ASU received much of their production in the prior meeting from Sam Houston State transfer Sam Rodgers (15) and Kaila Garnett (13), who combined for 28 kills against the Lady Chaps.
- Six of ASU's nine wins this season have come at home, where the Belles are 6-3 on the season. They are riding a three-match home win streak, which began with their 3-1 win over LCU.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU is 8-11 on the season (4-4 in conference and in ninth place in the standings) and coming off a 3-2 home win against Texas Woman's Wednesday. The win placed LCU with a 7-3 record in home matches this season. The Lady Chaps seek their first road win of the season, as they are 0-4 in road play (all four road games are against opponents that have combined for a 51-19 overall record and a 22-3 home record).
Sage Chain leads LCU with 24 kills on the road and
Payton Murray leads in kills per set (2.29).
Kayton Genenbacher averages 7.4 assists per set and
Kendall Mahaney has 3.1 digs per set. Home teams are averaging 9.25 aces and 8.5 blocks per match against LCU this season.
- Lubbock Christian, 0-8 when losing the opening set of matches this season, is 6-0 when they win the third set and 2-11 when they lose the set (LCU has won two of their last three matches when losing the third set). Sticking to record trends, LCU is 7-0 when either leading in kills or leading in attack percentage and 1-11 when trailing each of the categories. Bizarrely, LCU is 1-5 when leading in blocks in a match, collecting their first win Sept. 28 (against Midwestern State… when producing more blocks than their opponent).
