Game 1 vs. Southern Missouri

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the second inning, Missouri Southern had their first two batters reach base to lead off the inning. LCU pitcher Maxine Valdez was able to get out of the jam striking out three straight batters to keep the 3-0 lead.

How it Happened:
LCU wasted no time getting the lead in the first inning. Savannah Wysocki and Tiarra Delrosario each reached with a single in the bottom of the first inning, and they would score on a home run from Brooke Makemson for a 3-0 lead. LCU was able to get out of a jam in the second inning and Angela Donaldson led off the bottom half of the inning with a bunt single and scored on a two-out double to left field by Wysocki for a 4-0 advantage. Wysocki scored on an error to complete the scoring in the two-run inning for a 5-0 LCU lead.

Donaldson collected an RBI in the third inning with a single to score Riley Lunsford, which put LCU up 6-0. They made it 7-0 and closed the scoring in the fifth inning, as Tyla Lee and Skylar Herrera each hit doubles, with Lee scoring on Herrera's hit.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Maxine Valdez and Mattye Tyler combined for the shutout, which is the team's third shutout this season (team's first non-no-hit shutout). Valdez went 5.0 innings and struck out five batters (two hits allowed) and received the win (5-1), while Tyler claimed the save (1) with 3.0 scoreless innings (two hits allowed). The shutout was the third in the career of Valdez and her second combined shutout. Tyler's save is the first this season by a Lady Chap. Taylor Franco led LCU last season with all three of LCU's saves.
  • Brooke Makemson's three-run blast was her second home run of the season and her 12th of her LCU career.
  • Missouri southern was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and 1-for-9 with runners on base, while LCU was 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
  • The meeting was the first-ever meeting between the two programs and LCU moved to 13-0 all-time against Missouri based programs.

Game 2 vs. Arkansas Tech

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Arkansas Tech's Shelby Chavers and Tymber Riley hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to trim the LCU lead to 5-3. The back-to-back shots didn't bother LCU pitcher Taylor Franco, who responded by allowing one hit over the next 10 batters faced.

How it Happened:
The Lady Chaps scored the first five runs of the game. Wysocki reached on an error in the first inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyla Lee. Donaldson led off the four-run second inning with a bunt single (second one of the day) before Kamryn Gibbs hit a two-run home run for a 3-0 lead. Wysocki followed with a triple and was driven in by Delrosario, who would score on a double from Lee for a 5-0 advantage.

Chavers and Riley went back-to-back, and their home runs cut LCU's advantage to 5-3. The Golden Suns threatened in the sixth inning, as a leadoff walk led to a RBI-single from Jessica Williams. Leading 5-4, LCU pitcher Taylor Franco was able to face the final six batters without surrendering a hit. She retired all three hitters in order in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Franco (improved to 6-0 and claimed her 41st career win) claimed her 38th complete game in her LCU career. She allowed four runs off eight hits in her seven innings of work and forced the Golden Suns in 14 groundouts.
  • LCU improved to 2-1 in one-run games, winning their last two one-run results.
  • The Lady Chaps improved to 6-0 when scoring in the first inning and 9-1 when scoring first. LCU has outscored opponents 19-4 in the first inning this season (5-2 this weekend).
  • Savannah Wysocki hit her team-leading fourth triple of the season, which has her with a program-career record 19 in her LCU career. The mark leads all active NCAA Division II student-athletes.
  • The Lady Chaps have won 11 consecutive games for the first time since a 17-game streak in 2016.
  • Kamryn Gibbs' homer was her fourth in her career and second of the season. Tyla Lee's sacrifice fly was her first of the season, and she becomes the fourth different Lady Chaps to produce a sac fly.
  • The win improved LCU to 1-0 all-time against ATU. LCU is 5-0 against GAC programs and 5-0 all-time against Arkansas based programs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
LCU closes their Oklahoma stay Sunday morning facing No.14 Rogers State at 10 a.m. in Oklahoma City on the campus of Oklahoma Christian.
