NATIONALLY KNOWN
The Lady Chaps claimed the No.1 spot in the WBCA's National Top-25 Preseason Poll for the first time in program history this year, and also for the first time they were the favorites in both the WBCA and D2SIDA preseason polls. LCU fell to CSU Pueblo in Lakewood, Colo., which ended their 39-game win streak and knocked them out of the No.1 spot. For three consecutive polls, LCU was not in the No.1 spot, but they worked their way back to the top spot in the WBCA poll. Their return to No.1 status lasted through two WBCA and one D2SIDA poll before their loss at Texas A&M-Kingsville resulted in them showing up at No.6 (WBCA) and No.7 (D2SIDA) in the following week's polls. They worked back up to No.2 (D2SIDA) and No.4 (WBCA), but have since fallen and are currently No.16 in WBCA and No.11 in D2SIDA. Overall this season, LCU has been No.1 in three WBCA polls and two D2SIDA polls.

On Dec.14, both LCU women's and men's basketball programs were each No.1 in their respective polls, marking the first time in LCU history in which LCU's men's and women's basketball programs were each ranked No.1 at the same time.

SO ARE SOME OTHERS
On Jan. 13, LCU fell at No.6 Texas A&M-Commerce, which was their first loss of the season against a Top-25 nationally ranked opponent (it has been their only road game against a nationally ranked opponent this season). LCU went 6-0 against nationally ranked programs last season and 4-2 in 2019-20 against the nations ranked foes. This season, LCU is 3-1 against ranked opponents, as they have defeated No.11 Tampa (Nov. 7 in Billings, Mont.), No.1 Lander (Nov. 19 in Lubbock) and No.20 Daemen (Nov. 20 in Lubbock).

OFF THE COURT SMARTS
Lubbock Christian University's Allie Schulte was selected as an Academic All-District Six (NCAA Div. II) recipient by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Schulte, a graduate guard from Nazareth, Texas, holds a 3.87 GPA, as she completed a degree in Humanities and is currently completing a second degree with a bachelors in Exercise Science. In order to be selected to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. The honor is the second All-District academic honor for Schulte, and it gives LCU eight Academic All-District selections in women's basketball at the NCAA Div. II level in program history. LCU has received an All-District selection in all but one season in which they have been eligible to receive recognition. Schulte will now be nominated to receive Academic All-America accolades.

SENORITY
LCU will celebrate Senior Night Thursday during halftime of the men's basketball contest against Western New Mexico. LCU's seniors to be recognized are Laynee Burr and Channing Cunyus. Both members, in their fourth season with the Lady Chaps, will not exercise their additional season of eligibility made available via COVID. Burr, who is approaching 600 career points (587), has appeared in 107 career contests. Cunyus, who also has over 500 career points (531), has played in 102 career games as a Lady Chap.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT WNMU
1 > The Mustangs are 6-15 overall on the season, with a 2-11 record in LSC play. They ended a four-game losing streak Monday with a 61-51 win over Texas A&M International at home. They are in 15th in the LSC standings, fighting to get in the top-12 for postseason play.
2 > WNMU went 1-3 last season, playing a very limited schedule due to COVID protocols placed down by the state of New Mexico. Each of their four games were played out-of-state. The limited play has them with a No.17 LSC Preseason pick for this season.
3 > Dating back to last season, WNMU has dropped nine consecutive road games (0-7 this season).
4 > The Mustangs rank 27th nationally with a pace of 4.7 blocks per game. Olivia Lee enters the week ranking eighth in the LSC with 1.1 blocks per game.
5 > WNMU ranks second in the LSC and 43rd nationally defensively, as they have held their opponents to a 36.5% shooting mark from the field this season.

THE SERIES AGAINST WNMU
The Mustangs and Lady Chaps are set to meet for the 24th time in an all-time series that dates back to 1980. WNMU has not defeated the Lady Chaps since 1994, which has led to LCU taking a 13-10 series advantage. LCU has won the prior nine meetings, with the latest resulting in an 66-43 LCU win Dec. 12 in Silver City, N.M. LCU is 7-2 in Lubbock against WNMU (six straight wins). The 2019-20 season's home-and-home conference schedule marked the first time the two teams had a home-and-home set scheduled in a single season since 1994, when each were members of the NAIA.

Grace Foster 1gp – 11 pts., 4/6 fg, 2/2 3-pt fg

PRIOR MEETING VS. WNMU
SILVER CITY, N.M. (December 11, 2021) – No.2 Lubbock Christian University outscored Western New Mexico 33-4 in points-off-turnovers, as the Lady Chaparrals cruised past the Mustangs 67-39 Saturday inside Drag's Court in a non-conference contest between a pair of Lone Star Conference programs.

WNMU hit two of their first shot attempts, including a three-pointer by Alina Simon, and the Mustangs had an early 5-4 lead. It would be the Lady Chaps contest the rest of the way. LCU used a 6-0 run and a pair of 5-0 runs, including one to close the first quarter, for a 20-9 lead. The Lady Chaps were 9-of-16 from the field in the opening frame (56.3%), with Laynee Burr leading the squad with six points. Burr and teammate Allie Schulte each had two steals in the quarter, which helped LCU outscore the Mustangs 9-0 in the quarter in points-off-turnovers.

The trend continued in the second quarter, as WNMU never tallied consecutive field goals in the quarter. Channing Cunyus drained a pair of three-pointers during an 8-0 run in the quarter, and they closed the half on a 10-0 run with three-pointers from Shaylee Stovall and Grace Foster, who hit her bucket with five seconds left in the half for a 42-15 halftime lead.

LCU was 4-of-7 (57.1%) in the second quarter from long range. Cunyus, who had two of LCU's three-pointers in the quarter, led LCU in the quarter with six points.

At the half, LCU was 54.5% (18/33) from the field. Six Lady Chaps had at least five points tallied in the first half, but no player had more than six points. LCU committed one turnover in the half, while forcing 14 turnovers, which led to a 19-0 scoring advantage in the half in points-off-turnovers.

LCU opened the second half on a 10-4 run and went to all their resources. Fourteen different Lady Chaps were mixed into play during the quarter. Ashton Duncan had four points in the quarter before making way to the Lady Chaps reserves, as her four points co-led the team in the quarter with Whitney Cox, who had four points (all from the line) in the quarter. LCU produced their largest lead of the game during the quarter, as Foster knocked down a jumper for a 52-19 (33-point) lead with 3:57 remaining in the quarter.

Foster would lead LCU in the fourth quarter with four points, as she completed the game leading LCU with 11 points. All 15 Lady Chaps dressed produced playing time. No Lady Chap played more than 21:02 and no player played less than 5:16. Of the 15 Lady Chaps participating, no Lady Chaps member had more than one turnover, as LCU had a 23-8 advantage in turnovers forced. LCU had a season-high 15 steals, with four by Schulte.

LCU's 33 points-off-turnovers is a season-high and is their highest mark since scoring 34 points last season (Feb. 12, 2021) against WNMU. On the flip side, LCU has held WNMU to a combined 11 points off turnovers in the last three-meetings combined (3.7 per game).

WNMU (3-4) did not have anyone in double figures. They were held to 34.8% (16/46) shooting from the field and were 3-of-14 (21.4%) from three-point range.
