LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (28-13, 26-13, LSC) vs.
CAMERON (13-26, 11-24 LSC)
Saturday, April 16 – 1 p.m.
McCord Field – Lawton, Oklahoma
LEADING OFF
It was a struggle to start the series, as Lubbock Christian lost back-to-back games for just the third time all season, but the Chaps got a pair of strong pitching performances on Saturday and the offense exploded for 20 runs in the nightcap, giving LCU a chance to still split the series on Saturday. The Chaps have split four other series this year (vs. UAFS, at ASU, vs. SEU, at WT), but they have not lost a four-game set to this point. LCU's last series loss came April 30-May1 of 2021, when they dropped two out of three against UT Tyler.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP
LCU –
Ty Stephenson will start in the finale for the Chaps, a role he has become very familiar with. Stephenson has an ERA of 6.69 in 37.2 innings of work this season. He has allowed 38 runs but has not been helped by his defense, because only 28 of them are earned. The righty has allowed 50 hits but walked just 16 batters while striking out 26. He has been especially solid against right-handed hitters this season, holding them to just a .277 batting average (31-112). Last weekend, Stephenson was relieved after four innings of work in which he allowed five runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.
CU – It'll be a fourth straight right-hander for the Aggies, as they send Clayton McClennan to the mound for the series finale. He has an ERA of 5.00 and is holding opposing batters to an average of just .257 this season. McClennan will be making his eighth start and has tossed two complete games already this year. He leads the team with 45.0 innings of work. The righty has limited the walks with just 11 and struck out 36 batters on the year. Last weekend against St. Mary's he went 6.1 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
