LOOKING AT SOUTHWESTERN OKLA. STATE
- LCU and SWOSU are meeting for the seventh time all time and the fifth time since 2016. The Lady Chaps have a 4-2 all-time series lead after ending a two-match losing skid to SWOSU with a 3-0 win in Lubbock on Sept. 12, 2019. Three of the last four meetings have been in Lubbock.
- SWOSU is a member of the Great American Conference (GAC), where they are preseason picked tied for second in the conference. They went 20-8 last season, finishing in a share of second place in the GAC (13-3). SWOSU has finished within the top three of the GAC standings over each of the prior four seasons.
- The Bulldogs are 1-3 to open the season, going 1-3 at a classic hosted by Missouri Southern State in Joplin, Mo.
- Macie Morgan is the Bulldogs go-to target. She ranks 12
th nationally through the opening week of the regular season with 11.3 attacks per set (her 158 total attacks ranks 28
th nationally). She averages 3.79 kills per set, which is second in the GAC and 45
th nationally.
- As a team, SWOSU ranks 33
rd nationally in assists per set (12.57), with setter Terez Chavez ranking fifth in the GAC and 34
th nationally with a pace of 10.14 assists per set.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU is 1-3 on the young season after opening the season at the Seawolf Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska. They concluded their play Saturday with a 3-0 win over Emmanuel College (Ga.), who was coming off a huge win over Point Loma.
- Freshman
Lily Bickley leads the team in kills following the opening weekend of play, as she has 42 kills (12
th in the conference) at a rate of 3.5 per set (eighth in the conference). Bickley is responsible for 3.92 points per set (11
th in the LSC) and she ranks ninth in the LSC in hitting percentage (.322). Saturday against Alaska Fairbanks had an attack mark of .625 in the match. Since 2008, Bickley's attack percentage was the fourth highest produced by a Lady Chap and the highest since Jaiden Kennedy posted a .700 mark on October 11, 2018.
- LCU has 16 players on the roster and all 16 participated in action over the opening weekend in Alaska. Included in the mix was
Hailey Cournoyer, who produced four blocks (two solo) and a kill in a pair of sets played. She suffered a season-ending injury on January 26, 2021 (second game of the COVID-shortened season that was moved to the spring), which forced her to miss the remainder of that season and the entire 2021 season (the normal fall season). All four freshman (Bickley,
Olivia Elofsson,
Payton Murray and
Allie Rice) saw action as well.
- Setter
Kayton Genenbacher was named to the Seawolf Invitational All-Tournament Team after contributing 135 assists in 14 sets for a rate of 9.6 per set (both total and assists per set rank fourth in the LSC). She produced new career high marks on the weekend, including back-to-back 40-assist performances in matches against Pittsburg State and Alaska Fairbanks. Against Pittsburg State, she produced her second career double-double, which featured 40 assists and 13 digs to go along with five kills. The sophomore had two serving aces in LCU's win over Emmanuel.
- Sophomore Libero
Kendall Mahaney, who was two digs shy of a career-high mark Friday against Pittsburg State (posting 26 digs), leads the team with 72 digs (seventh in the LSC and 28
th nationally) and is at a pace of 5.14 per set (third in the LSC and 21
st nationally).
- Saturday against Emmanuel,
Zoe Parker notched LCU's 10
th performance of five or more aces in a three-set match since 2008, and became the second Lady Chaps member to do it twice in the same span. Her production of five aces in the match tied for third (since 2008) for the most aces by a Lady Chaps member in a three-set match. Parker has eight aces on the season, which ranks her fourth in the conference, and she also ranks sixth with 0.57 aces per set.
- LCU's top team category entering the weekend is ranking 56
th in total blocks with a 29.0.
Sage Chain leads LCU ranking 11
th in the LSC with a pace of 1.0 blocks per set (14 total on the season, ranking ninth in the LSC). Against Alaska Fairbanks, Chain produced four solo blocks. With match-by-match record files on hand since 2008, the four solo blocks tied for the most by a Lady Chaps member. There have been six matches since 2008 with the mark and Chain, who also completed the task on Feb 2, 2021 (vs. UT Permian Basin), became the first Lady Chaps member (since 2008) to complete four solo blocks in a match twice. As a team, LCU had five solo blocks registered against UAF and it matched last season's season-high mark (Sept. 17, 2021).
- Thursday marks LCU's home debut. The Lady Chaps, who closed out the home schedule last season with a 3-2 win over No.25 West Texas A&M, went 8-1 at home last season (closed winning their last four home matches).
