ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Abigail Jones and
Bryce Spencer both broke their own records in the weight throw, as LCU wrapped up day one of the UNM Team Open on Friday, Jan. 27.
For the third straight week, Spencer broke his own school record in the weight throw, this week with a toss of 18.96 meters. That mark breaks his old school record by 0.14 meters, and moves Spencer up to 11
th in all of Division-II indoor track & field in the event. Spencer finished fifth in the event, beating out throwers from Cal, Grand Canyon, and Eastern New Mexico.
Jones broke her own record in the weight throw by 1.67 meters, finishing 18
th with a toss of 15.00 meters. Her second throw of 14.54 meters would've also broken the school record. Jones also finished third in her flight, above throwers from CSU Bakersfield, New Mexico State, UNLV, UC Irvine, and Eastern New Mexico
Joy Egwu finished second in her flight and 14
th overall in the 200-meter run, finishing just 0.03 seconds away from tying her personal best. It is her first top-15 finish in the event in her collegiate career.
Paityn Green picked up a fourth-place finish in her flight of the weight throw with a toss of 13.10 meters. Green beat out throwers from UC Irvine, New Mexico State, Eastern New Mexico, and Angelo State.
Coulter Reel continued her record-breaking season, setting a new personal best in the high jump with a clearance of 1.51 meters. Reel is still the only Lady Chap to record a mark in the event.
Garrett Dixon set a new personal best in the weight throw, finishing with a toss of 12.08 meters. That mark smashes his old career-best in the event by 0.22 meters. Dixon has reset his personal best at two straight meets.
The Chaps will close out their time in Albuquerque on Saturday, Jan. 28. Action is set to begin from the ABQ Convention Center at 11:30 AM
