Chaps Finish Sixth at LSC Championships

CANYON, Texas (May 9, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University took sixth place at the 2026 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex this weekend.
 
The sixth place finish matches where LCU finished last season, as LCU scored 49 total points. Two Chaparrals earned podium finishes, including a second place finish from Alfons Rawall in the 3000-meter steeplechase and a third place finish from Maurice Gray in the triple jump.
 
Rawall's second-place finish in the steeplechase was the second of his career. He set a new personal best in the event with a time of 9:26.52. He also finished 15th in the 5000-meter with a time of 15:32.46.
 
In the triple jump, Gray also set a new personal best in the triple jump, where he also provisionally qualified for the NCAA National Championships. His leap of 14.94 meters was good enough for third place in the event.
 
Daniel Sianez added in eight points individually, scoring in both the 200-meter and 400-meter. He placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 21.08s and his time of 47.35s in the 400 was good enough for sixth.
 
Nathaniel Luna also scored in the 200-meter with a time of 21.18s, and Chris Moffett took fifth in the 400-meter with a time of 47.03s. LCU got another point from sprinter Jaqualand Fields, who took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.30s.
 
On the distance side, Matthew Gordon scored in two different events. He took sixth in the 800-meter finals with a time of 1:53.96. In the 1500-meter, Gordon recorded a new personal best in the prelims with a time of 3:59.90, but ran a 4:06.55 in the finals to place seventh.
 
Not far behind Rawall in the steeplechase came Samuel Bryan, who brought in four points by finishing the race with a time of 9:52.41.
 
Kevin Lingueno brought in a point with an eighth-place finish in the high jump, setting a new personal best by clearing 1.85 meters. And Maximus Mancilla threw the javelin 51.82m to take fifth and bring in four points.
 
Athletes that have provisionally qualified for the national championship meet will find out if they have been invited this week. The meet will be held May 21-23 at Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas.
