LUBBOCK, Texas - Lubbock Christian broke two more school records and had four top-10 finishes on day one of the Jarvis Scott Open on Friday, Feb. 10.
Trael Robertson set a school record in the 60-meter run by 0.01 seconds, finishing 16
th in the prelims. Robertson qualified for the second round with a second-place finish in his heat, beating runners from TCU, Eastern New Mexico and Prairie View A&M. Robertson almost set the school record again in the second round, finishing 21
st with a time of 6.88 seconds.
George Garcia set a school record in the 400-meter run for the second straight week, finishing with a time of 47.59 seconds. That mark beats his old school record set at the NM College Classic by 0.22 seconds. That time is now the seventh-fastest time in all of Division-II.
Bryce Spencer picked up his 15
th straight top-10 finish in the weight throw, finishing third with a toss of 18.63 meters. Spencer was the highest D-II finisher, beating out throwers from West Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Incarnate Word, Sam Houston, and Abilene Christian. It is Spencer's highest finish in the event this season.
Jeremiah Fernandez set a new personal best in the pole vault, finishing sixth with a clearance of 4.06 meters. It is his fourth top-10 finish in the event, and his highest finish in the indoor pole vault in his career.
Abigail Jones finished fourth in the weight throw, a career-best finish for her in the event, with a toss of 14.90 meters. Jones was the highest D-II finisher, and beat out throwers from Abilene Christian, West Texas A&M, Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico. It is Jones' first top-10 finish in the weight throw.
In the 5000-meter run,
Chloe Trull finished tenth with a time of 19:32.23. It is her fifth straight top-10 finish in the event. Her teammate
Hailey Lowery finished behind her, smashing her personal best in the event by almost 20 seconds, finishing with a time of 20:07.41
Kamille Boyd set a personal best in the 60-meter run, finishing with a time of 7.97 seconds, the first time she has finished the race in under eight seconds.
Jozlyn Arana finished the 400-meter run with a new personal best for the second straight week, finishing the race in under a minute for the first time in her career with a time of 59.00 seconds. Her teammate
Chris Rader also set a new personal best in the event, beating his old career best mark by 0.20 seconds with a time of 49.37 seconds. Rader won his heat by 0.56 seconds, beating out runners from West Texas A&M and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
Aiden Zingone competed in the 5000-meter run for the first time in his career, finishing with a time of 16:57.92.
The Chaps will close out their weekend at the Jarvis Scott Open on Saturday, Feb. 11. Action begins from the Sports Performance Center at 10:00 AM. All of the action will be streamed on ESPN+.
