CANYON, Texas (April 10, 2023) – Lubbock Christian University's men's and women's track programs set eight outdoor track program records and claimed wins in seven different events at the Jo Meaker Classic hosted by West Texas A&M.
Highlighting the records was
George Garcia, who ran the 400 meters in 45.76 to win the event. Garcia's time is the fastest recorded this season in Division II and the sixth-fastest this season mixing in all NCAA levels. He was also part of the 4X100 relay team that finished third place with a program record time of 40.36 (reached a Division II provisional mark).
Keitron Boyd,
Chris Rader and
Ryan Gordon joined Garcia in the record-breaking relay event.
Bryce Spencer set the program record in the hammer throw, with an event-winning toss of 62.13 meters. It was is the third-longest toss in all of NCAA Division II this season. Spencer also nailed a NCAA Division II provisional mark in the discus, with a hurl of 51.3 meters.
Kevin Washington set a program record in the long jump, with a leap of 7.41 meters, which reached a NCAA Division II provisional mark. Washington finished second in the event, and the record topped a mark previously held by Sherlon Didier from the 2021 season (7.36 meters).
To complete the men's event winners is
Dalton Yeoman, who ran the 800 in a personal best time of 2:04.11. LCU also had
Luke Mosley (800 meters – 158.66),
Hagen Sage (1500 meters – 4:14.14), Kaleb Gaona (5k meters – 16:03.49),
Keitron Boyd (200 meters – 21.06) and
Landon Bowers (110 hurdles - 14.84) completed their events reaching personal-best marks.
Boyd's 200-meter time notched a NCAA Division II provisional mark. Also reaching a provisional mark was
Nathaniel Luna, who finished 10
th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.42.
On the women's side, the LCU 4x400 relay won the event with a program-record time of 3:46.5 (also notched a NCAA Division II provisional mark). The team consisted of
Reanna Argullin,
Jozlyn Arana,
Kiley Cummings and
Anna Salisbury. Salisbury, who had a personal best running time of 24.42 in the 200-meter event, also put her name into the program records in the 400 meter event, as she finished second and notched a provisional mark with a 54.01. Completing the records on the women's side was
Joy Egwu, who set the school record in the 100 meters with a time of 12.02, and
Jayda Rosales, who had a jump of 11.22 meters in the triple jump.
Joining the 4x400 relay team as event winners was
Madelyn Merrell and
Chloe Trull. Merrell won the 1,500 meter run (4:41.7) and Trull won the 10k meter run with a personal best time of 39:52.56.
The Lady Chaps also received a personal best running time from
Hailey Davis, who completed the 5k meter run in a time of 21:40.79.
Next of the docket is a pair of events in California, as the Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut, Calif.) and the Bryan Clay Invitational each take place this week.
