LCU Aims For Their First Series Sweep of ASU

SAN ANGELO, Texas (April 16, 2023) – An important Lone Star Conference series gets underway Saturday at Mayer Field, as No.10 Lubbock Christian University faces Angelo State in a doubleheader scheduled for a 4 p.m. first pitch.

LCU and ASU Series Snapshot
  • Angelo State is 9-5 all-time against LCU, but the Lady Chaps have won the prior four meetings.
  • LCU swept Saturday's doubleheader with a 3-2 and 8-7 final. Each went eight innings.
    • Tiarra Delrosario (4-for-8) and Hope Banales (4-for-9) each have four hits in the series. Banales leads LCU with five RBI in the series
    • LCU has been walked 13 times (Kasey Flores four times)
    • Kamryn Gibbs is 3-for-6 with a .625 on-base percentage in the series
    • LCU is averaging 10 strikeouts per game in the series. Maxine Valdez set a career high in strikeouts with 14 Saturday
    • LCU is 10-of-16 (.625) on reaching their leadoff batter in the series
  • Last season, the two teams split the regular season finale in Lubbock, but they met at the NCAA South Central Regional in Tyler, Texas, where LCU opened the tournament with a 6-5 win in 13 innings.
  • The prior three meetings have resulted in extra innings (all won by LCU).
  • Angelo State was nationally ranked in 10 of the prior 13 meetings. Angelo State is unranked heading into this weekend's series.
  • Tiarra Delrosario is 13-for-23 (.565) in her career against ASU. She has a .583 on-base percentage.
  • Kasey Flores (6-for-16) is hitting .375 all-time against ASU. Flores has two home runs and five RBI against ASU in her career.
  • Skylar Herrera has eight hits in seven career games against the Belles.
  • Maxine Valdez has a 2-0 career mark in four career appearances against ASU and holds 29 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. ASU is hitting .247 against her in her career. Taylor Franco is 2-2 in her career against ASU and has held the Belles to a .213 batting average.
