LUBBOCK, Texas (May 1, 2023) – Four Lubbock Christian University outdoor track & field program records were set Saturday at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout, hosted by Texas Tech, headlined by
Bryce Spencer setting a pair of throwing records.
Spencer set the men's outdoor record in the discus (55.93 meters) and the hammer throw (62.55 meters). His event-winning hammer throw is the best in the South Central Region this season and it is the fifth-best nationally in Division II. Spencer's discus finished sixth at the event, but it was the third-best throw in Division II this season.
Kevin Washington completed the men's program's third program record set Saturday, as he jumped 14.91 meters in the triple jump. Both Spencer's and Washington's records met provisional marks in NCAA Division II.
On the women's side, throwers
Jazmene Duran matched a program record and
Abigail Jones set a program record. Duran, finishing 11
th in the shot put, matched Jones' shot put record with a throw of 12.95 meters. Jones set the program's discus record with a throw of 41.69, which was second at the event.
Jones was not the only Lady Chaps member making noise in the discus, as
Skyler Dempsey (third with a throw of 41.13 meters) and Patyn Green (seventh, 37.34 meters) each had personal best throws. Additional personal bests on the women's side included Michelle Sime running the 100-meters in 12.37 and
Kylie Knapp running a 5:40.27 in the 1,500-meter run.
Relay teams hit three NCAA Division II provisional marks. The Lady Chaps 4x400 team of
Joy Egwu,
Jozlyn Arana,
Reanna Argullin and
Anna Salisbury finished in third place with a time of 3:46.81. On the men's side,
Keitron Boyd,
Chris Rader,
Ryan Gordon,
George Garcia teamed up on the 4x400 relay to win the race with a provisional time of 3:13.50. Gordon, Boyd and Garcia were also joined by
Nathaniel Luna in the 4x100 relay, which LCU won by a time of 40.42 (hit a NCAA Division II provisional mark). Luna also had his own success by running a personal-best time of 10.39 in the 100-meters to hit a provisional mark.
In the 200-meters Treal Robertson (21.00), who ran a personal-best time of 10.5 in the 100-meters, and Boyd (21.18) each reached NCAA Division II provisional times. Garcia wrapped up the provisional marks with a 46.37 in the 400-meters.
A slew of personal best times and distances were accomplished by Chaparrals competitors. Four of the accomplishments were in the 800-meter run, as
Luke Mosley (1:57.73),
Dalton Yeoman (2:02.95),
Takunda Rutunga (2:04.73) and
Kaleb Gaona (2:07.14) registered their best personal times. Gaona also hit a personal best in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:13.93.
Hagen Sage (4:06.74) and Aaron Zingone (4:31.77) joined Gaona with personal-best times in the event. In field events,
Jeremiah Fernandez had a personal best in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.13 meters.
Garrett Dixon (41.82 meters in the hammer throw) and
Thomas McCully (50.35 meters in the javelin throw) each had personal highs in throwing events.
The meet was LCU's final meet leading into the LSC Championships, which LCU is hosting and it gets underway Thursday at LCU Soccer and Track Facility.
