CANYON, Texas (May 15, 2023) – A light load of members of Lubbock Christian University's outdoor track programs competed at Last Chance hosted by West Texas A&M, but those that did had some record-breaking performances. Five LCU program records were broken, including two by
Kevin Washington in jumping events.
Washington topped his own career-high marks which also stood as program records in each of his two events. He won the triple jump with a jump of 15.05 meters, which is the fifth-best distance jumped in the event in the South Central Region. Washington finished third in the long jump with a record jump of 7.51 meters. Both of Washington's events he reached NCAA Division II provisional marks.
Bryce Spencer completed a pair of throwing events, reaching the podium in the hammer throw and discus. Spencer set a program record in the hammer with a throw of 64.81, which was the best at the event and ranks as the fourth-best throw in all of NCAA Division II this season. He finished third in the discus with a distance of 52.56. Both events, Spencer obtained NCAA Division II provisional marks.
LCU's men's program set four program records and the fourth was by the 4x100 relay team consisting of
Nathaniel Luna,
Trael Robertson,
Keitron Boyd and
George Garcia. The squad completed the event in a time of 40.11, which finished third and met a NCAA Div. II provisional mark.
On the women's side, meeting a provisional mark and setting a program record was the 4x400 relay team of
Joy Egwu,
Jozlyn Arana,
Reanna Argullin and
Anna Salisbury. Their record and event-winning time was 3:43.64.
The event was the final regular season meet for LCU's programs. Next on the schedule is the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Pueblo, Colo., which opens May 25 ThunderBowl.
